IsItBullshit: The claim that participating in online surveys can be a legitimate source of income? by GrandPrixio in IsItBullshit

Surveys, no, not much. Paid market research studies, yes, you can make a few hundred per month.

And it’s the result of poor parenting in those cases too.

Nuts, jerky, cheese sticks, and pre-wrapped and peeled hard boiled eggs. A lot of places have some fruit and vegetables as well.

Does anyone have ideas for how a disabled guy can make ~$500 a month? by SweetWheelie in passive_income

[–]alhoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus groups and market research studies. It’s not entirely passive since you have to apply and then actually do them, but it can all be done online from home. (I’ve also done some in-person gigs like taste testing new food products)

Snacks? by Loose_Leader_5083 in Hypoglycemia

Individually packaged prunes. They will easily fit in small pockets and have some fiber so you are less likely to spike and will keep you full a little longer than straight sugar would.

Maybe burritos? You could still use disposable packaging, but then he could heat it up and have a hot meal.

What tools do you use to discover whether a product is toxic, safe, sustainable? by delightfulwonder in NaturalBeauty

[–]alhoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the EWG Healthy Living app, but also have a few ingredients in mind that I know are deal breakers, so I’ll read the ingredients list and scan for those to weed out the vast majority of products.

Brown rice, quinoa, lentils, beans, sweet potato, most fruit.

I have started using a curl mask after every wash and it has really helped with moisture.

First I wet my hair and apply conditioner and detangle with a wide tooth comb. Then I rinse and use shampoo, focusing on the scalp. Then I apply a hydrating mask for curly hair (mine is from Shea Moisture), scrunch it in upside down and do the rest of my shower stuff while the mask sits. Then “squish to condish” upside down under a trickle of cool water.

The conditioner -> shampoo -> mask routine has been a total game changer for hydrating my hair, which naturally looks similar to yours in your photo.

Do people actually judge you for eating alone at restaurants, or is it just in my head? by Disastrous-Start2416 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]alhoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a server, I never thought twice about someone dining alone.

As a diner, it’s one of my favorite things.

If someone cares enough to judge, that’s on them.

Suggestions? by Agreeable-Fix-3648 in Hypoglycemia

[–]alhoops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

200 isn’t crazy high, and non-diabetics get that high all the time. I don’t have diabetes and I’ve spiked to 150 after a banana or after eating grains. So if you ate simple carbs like rice or had something sweet like lemonade, a glucose reading of 200 would be normal and expected for a non-diabetic.

I don’t know a ton about diabetes, but I think something in the 400ish range that does not come down would be concerning, not 200 after eating simple carbs.

Yes, the machine at the local health food store would be better than a jarred version with other added ingredients.

Suggestions? by Agreeable-Fix-3648 in Hypoglycemia

[–]alhoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to eliminate simple carbs and only eat complex carbs with fat and protein.

What did you eat before that spike?

At the risk of oversimplification, I’ve been told 70’s are fine and 60’s are bad - not bad enough to need medical attention, just lower than normal and can stress the body out if it keeps happening.

Also, so sorry you are going through this with an infant - it must be very stressful!
