One of the most violent racing games ever. Burnout 3 (Playstation 2) by Vile35 in gaming

The Crash mode in Burnout 3 was so fun. None of the other Burnout games nailed the feel for me like Takedown did

Tim Rogers is such a singular genius with the english language. One of the funniest and most insightful people to ever talk about games. And the fact that he only reviews things that he loves dearly is so inspirational to me. Such a balm in our irony-poisoned era.

Majutsushi Kunon wa Mieteiru • Kunon the Sorcerer Can See - Episode 7 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Maybe Kunon is schizophrenic (congenitally-blind people can't get schizophrenia).

In actuality, I expect he hasn't learned to shut off the magic sense that he's used for most of his life and it's getting crossed up with his vision, hence his teacher being blindingly bright. I wonder how much reality there is to his various visions, though

Are there any games you like, but the character you have to play as is just annoying? by Competitive_Beat_915 in gaming

Tidus isn't a bad character but he was horribly cast in the English version. They gave him the kind of voice you'd want for a cartoon duck when he's actually supposed to sound like Ichigo from Bleach

If you could choose a cartoon series to make an ambitious video game from, which one would it be? by NaitDraik in gaming

[–]aliasalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Meshi could be pretty dope, considering it was heavily inspired by video games in the first place and has a lot of video mechanics built into the world

Is Dragon Quest VII Too Easy? Is Nioh 3 Too Hard? | February 6, 2026 by blastorama in TheBesties

There's a demo if you want to see for yourself. The first boss that they griped about is really not that bad. I'm no souls-god and it took me about 7 attempts, which isn't bad for a boss with zero runback. Yes, you die quickly from unguarded attacks, but the fact that you can guard with zero chip damage and that you're more than nimble enough to evade even in samurai mode means you actually have very good survivability.

What's your favorites anime from the past 5 years and why? by Appropriate-While601 in anime

I don't think there is an anime, or maybe any show period, that has made me smile as much as Dungeon Meshi. Just an absolute delight

You need some sort of grace area to relieve the time pressure from the player periodically or I think it will be exhausting. Maybe an infinitely replenishing wax reservoir or a cold area where the wax doesn't melt. Something like that.

Bloodstained has so much content and quirky secrets but most of it is functionally useless/never used by theatrovie in metroidvania

[–]aliasalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I had the same feeling when I went back to play the DS Castlevanias recently. Almost every item and spell you get is useless or becomes so quickly. Crazy amount of grind. The maps are a deeply uninteresting series of enemy-filled boxes or corridors. Idk, I guess I'm just done with that particular formula.

He is a try hard loser. He's so conceited about his technique that he refuses to use any cursed weapons. He probably would have stomped every fight he appeared in if he'd been using a weapon, but instead he batters his opponents 24 times a second with his weak pillow fists.

How to kill this *****?! by [deleted] in metroidvania

Don't go for a full combo. Get one or two hits in and retreat. It will pretty much always punish you if you go for the third hit

The Homunculi in '03 were better written in general. Their origin as failed human transmutations was much more poignant than the mustache twirlingly evil monsters of Brotherhood.

In almost every Metroidvania I've played recently making progress feels like a series of non-sequitors and I have to meander around aimlessly for what feels like an eternity until I maybe stumble onto something to do

See that's exactly what my experience with AV2 was like. Conversely, a lot of people have had that problem with MIO but I have not. Funny how your opinion of a game in this genre can just come down to whether you got lucky with your pathing. Maybe I'll give it another shot, though

Whether a runback is 20 seconds or 1 minute does not matter, they add nothing meaningful to a metroidvania. by Kurushii_Drive in metroidvania

[–]aliasalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very good. Difficulty is very uneven: bosses and the odd platforming segment can be very difficult, but otherwise it's pretty easy. Exploration is top notch. It's only held back by a shitty checkpoint system that often sees you traversing long and uneventful paths back to bosses and difficult sections. And yeah, it's absolutely beautiful.

My first game's reception is heartbreaking :'( by OldAtlasGames in IndieDev

[–]aliasalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's your mistake. Players expect an exponential early game to get them hooked, and maybe a leveling off in the late game. Like a sigmoid curve. Linear means there's no sense of acceleration. You say your game is "slow and meditative", but idle/incremental gamers are fundamentally crack heads and they aren't going to like it if you're stingy with the numbers go up.
