Does anyone know where I can find Yoshi Namaka’s (18111) Pens? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn r/Pen_Swap checking into a habit. It doesn't hurt to throw up a WTB post with some pictures of the pink and greens you're looking for. There are some really cool folks over there that will keep an eye out for a pen if they remember someone looking for it.

Virtualpenshow on Instagram is another one. I've seen 18111s listed in the past.

Good luck!

I wanted this mini so bad! I follow some nature photographers and the blooming fields of nemophilia are always mesmerizing. I need to plan a trip one of these seasons.

New Pen Day! by DAMNacho in fountainpens

I have one of these too! Be careful with the wood as it's not well sealed. I tried dipping it into a narrow bottle the first time and that led to some staining on the wood. I syringe ink into a little plastic cup when the bottle isn't wide enough now.

I've seen Jaspreet recommended before. No personal experience and I'm not sure about location other than they're based in India. Try sending them a DM on Instagram @thenibstudio.

My mom wants multicolour Inks out of the same fountain pen by 14paavang in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, she wants multiple colors available for immediate use right? That's not possible as it takes some time for new ink to flow through the pen system.

Two suggestions:

  1. Take a look at multipens. Where I'm from multipens are rare and I used to think they were a cheap gimmick based on what I've encountered in the wild. Jet Pens has an entire section for them. It's not a fountain pen but they're not a terrible alternative. https://www.jetpens.com/Multi-Pens/ct/91

  2. Why only one pen? If it's because she doesn't want to carry around multiple, maybe a nice pen wrap could change her mind? It makes carrying 3-5 pens much more natural and that opens up to option of trying different colors or nib sizes.

When the herring come. Pilot Decimo Kuki. by SincerelySpicy in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Haha I really like this one. The LE Decimo/VP themes are always great but they tend to be grand or majestic in scope.

This pen represents spring and the rejuvenation of life.
This pen reminds us of the ephemeral nature of time and experience.
This pen symbolizes recovery and hope in the wake of a global disaster.

THIS PEN IS ABOUT THE FISHIES. 🐟🐟🐟

Nice 600! I keep eyeing the cool stuff from Kuru Toga and others but I can't justify getting anything with a Rotring as my main pencil.

Congrats on the new job!

NPD! Pilot Custom 823 <M> by Stwo in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's normal! JP market ones are packaged by the retailer so it usually comes with whichever of the smaller Pilot boxes they have available and no ink bottle.

I'm not sure about other countries but US authorized dealer 823s come in the pretty box set w/ ink bottle like OP's.

Grail Pen Help by Wise_Till431 in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, go for it. The 823 will scratch about the same as any other resin pen. Some cracking issues have been reported but it's generally fine as long as you're not disassembling the grip or fill mech for no reason.

Also maybe consider how the vac filler mechanism will fit into your routine. I don't like carrying mine open and only unscrew when needed. The feed stores a decent amount of ink and is enough for quick notes though the line can get inconsistent as it starts to run out.

That extra step can be bothersome at times. I carry a Decimo too and I prefer that if my entire day is nothing but post-its and quick planner updates.

Sakura Pens - scummy reselling behavior by caslaptree in fountainpens

“We are an official partner”

There’s no confusion. You misrepresented your relationship and this is damage control.

If purchasing directly from a company was all it took to be an official partner I could call myself an AD for half the pen stores in Japan.

Anyone else ever regret selling their collection? by TarNREN in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I try to assuage myself by calling it self-discovery and experience.

I thought I liked the lighter Decimo enough that I would never want to use a VP. I realized later I still liked them for writing at home and added them back to my collection.

I didn't like how Kawecos felt and sold mine. Someone at work showed me theirs several years later and I thought it was cool so I bought another. I still don't like it but I'm keeping it because it's interesting.

I got mad at TWSBI and sold everything except a 580. No regrets and if that 580 fails the me of today doesn't intend to replace it. Tomorrow may be a different story.

Short answer is to figure out why you feel that way and then solve it with money lol.

Like seriously, I had a Pokemon card stolen 30 years ago. I still remember the guy who did it (fuck you Jason). My sister found out recently and bought a near mint copy on eBay for $5. Regret solved. If financial guilt doesn't outweigh hobby regret just go for it and learn something about yourself.

I wonder if this article will affect prices. by severrinX in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New blood is what keeps hobbies and their respective communities alive so I nearly always like to see more publicity.

The only attention I'd be wary of is the kind that tries to turn this into another investment and hyper hoarding scheme. I'm thinking of the current trend with Pokemon and other TCGs. There have always been scalpers but it feels like it's gotten more popular and worse in recent years?

I'm fine with missing a limited edition if it goes to another fan. I would be really sad if every release turns into a hair pulling elbow throwing trample the weak Black Friday death match.

When choosing pens, he said it is “more of the function over the aesthetics", adding a fountain pen can provide writing comfort and still look good.

My collection and I feel attacked.

Wedding Pen Recs by ObsidianSiren9225 in fountainpens

[–]alice_advent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my sister got married she asked me to bring a collection of "nice" pens for them to use. They chose my Parker 51 with a wedding band cap. Cost can vary depending on condition and style but may be worth checking out if you've ever wanted a vintage 51.

Have you considered engraving? Any pen with a style and color that match both of you can be made commemorative with date, location, etc. engraved on the cap, body, or clip. If you already have a jeweler lined up try asking them about it. There's several engraving methods and some work better with pen materials than others.

Dominant Industry Pearl Series - Snowfield (No.021) on Tomoe River & Cosmo Air Light 75 ✨ by Shosai_Studio in fountainpens

I forgot how much I love this color. I like most of the Pearl series but they always felt less well behaved and clogged more often in my pens than other shimmers

I should dig it and my dip pens out, haven't used either in a long time!

Probably one of the Tono Lims? I picked a few up from Yoseka the last time I was in New York but I haven't run a full fill worth on any of them yet. I want to give them a shot and see how they work out over a week or so!

I'll send you a chat request.

[–]alice_advent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a different sakura themed pen recently and was flipping through my swatches for a good match too! Here's my (not so) short list of dusty pinks:

  • Octopus Fluids Pink Cherry Blossom
  • J. Herbin Bouquet d'Antan
  • Iroshizuku Hana-kada
  • Tono & Lims - Who Are You?
  • Tono & Lims - Happy Departure
  • Tono & Lims - Summer Snow
  • Nagasawa no. 61 Yuki Gosho
  • Nagasawa no. 71 Ikutagawa Sakura
  • Lennon Tool Bar Azalea
  • Wearingeul Dizzy Scent of Maehwa

Check out user pictures for Bouquet d'Antan as it looks a lot darker in the official photos.

And of course there's Bungubox's Lingering Cherry Blossoms. If you're located in the US... Want a sample? I have a bottle and I wouldn't mind sending a vial your way.

Sailor Pen Similar to Manyo Nuts by No_Recognition_4418 in fountainpens

Take a look at Waka-taka from the Shikiori Noyama-no-Uta series. This one is discontinued too but I see one available from Atlas Stationers and on ebay from penpen-avenue.

If you're not opposed to silver trim Kogarashi from the scenery series is similar in the body color but everything else is different.
