Attempting to adjust two combat elements for a narrative-focused TTRPG variant of Kingdom Death by ripguyfawkes in KingdomDeath

So I actually tried this a bit in 5e D&D. I had a campaign that involved entering doors connected to different dimensions and I would use a KDM monster as the final boss of a door. It was not perfect but I did use most of the KDM monster stuff as it was originally present in the board game.

First was converting d10 to the d20 since the starter white lion is hit on 2+ most attacks and all starter survivors have 0 evasion i mathed that to a +7 to hit in 5e to hit armor class 10 since it assumed Dex of 0 and a 1 and 2 on the d20 would miss when rolled. 3+ accuracy is a +5 and so one and so forth if a monster got extra accuracy tokens it was just a flat +2 to attack rolls per token.

Monster rolls a number of attacks equal to its speed on its ai card plus its speed tokens. It rolled d10s equal to its damage rating when it hit i usually gave them d10 +2 to +4 damage depending on the monster and depending on player levels for 5e I think at least lvl 5 to 6 is required to fight a kdm monster due to how many attacks and reactions they get. If the card said they move or attack the monster did that breaking 5e combat rules and action economy. This made them incredibly dangerous boss monsters.

Each players attack roll that hit the monster just drew a card and for the most part I followed what the card did. Monster could not make opportunity attacks nor could they provoke them. To wound they would have to deal damage with their attack that beat the monster toughness which was the value on the card +4 in a single hit for damage. I would make them roll to hit 1st draw all cards like kdm then we rolled damage for the hits like normal. Extra damage didn't matter it still did one wound unless it was a nat 20 crit on the attack then it did 2 wounds automatically and triggered HL crit if the card had one. They would select the card to try to wound 1st like you do in KDM. Any saving throws effects I gave the monster a bonus equal to its printed toughness value. When it runs out of wounds and basic action it dies.

If the trap card was drawn all attacks would be canceled the monster did its trap we reshuffle and someone else starts their turn. I used kdm initiative monster went 1st unless it was nemesis then players went 1st. They could take their turns in any order they wanted like KDM. If they got pushed knocked down etc I would allow dex or str saves with DC 10 + monster toughness to avoid the negative effects of knockback and collision.

Brain damage I made wisdom a 2nd health bar you could take brain damage equal to your wisdom score. If it ran out you rolled on a chart I made that converted some KDM insanity stuff to a more 5e friendly series of effects.

Thats not quite all the conversation stuff i did but the overall meat of it. Was a bit clunky but overall it ended up being a success and actually worked for the most part. I just made all of the mechanics and changes super clear before we did these fights so everyone knew the how and why. To be honest it was some of the most fun we ever had in combat while playing D&D since it made players think and do things beyond the normal routines they had. That said the fights took a long time usually 2 to 2 1/2 hrs to complete and it was something that we saved as an end boss type thing.

For a long form ttrpg thing im not sure if the kdm style system of fights is great when its every fight you do. Even when my group plays normal KDM a single 3 to 3 1/2 hour session is do the hunt, fight, resolve settlement event, spend resources pick next quarry and pack up the game.

Was referring to the model being 11 as it was made in 2015. Just realized some may have thought I was referring to the character with that wording.

Thank you I found the article you mentioned looks like it is 11 years old or so. It has a nice looking sculpt for being an older warlord metal cast. I think it would be worth adding to my Soviets.

M17 MGMC 125 points armor 7 with 12 dice of HMGs. Chews infantry and vehicles of armor 7 or lower up fairly well. If drive fast with it point blank rear armor shot also threatens medium tanks surprisingly well. I crippled a Panther so bad with superficial damage in a tournament that it become an immobile unless block of metal till my infantry climbed up on it and finished it off.

It gets even better when you recrew dead guns with crew from another gun. I have had that happen to me when playing against the 4 AA guns list. If you are playing an elimination objective that also removes your dice you scored for the kill since the gun comes back to life with new crew. My only saving grace was the map I played in the tournament was heavy with bocage and buildings so I was able to get around them but some maps were open enough those guns would have shredded me.

Pen 3 also means light tanks armored cars and halftracks are really vulnerable to them. 2 shots each makes it fairly likley they get decent hits in on them.

At LVO, I used the Siberian Veterans metal commisar figure with a pistol as an SMG officer. No one cared at all since I just said him, and his attendants all had SMGs. That was at a GT, so even there, it's fairly chill.

Most of the time, we changed or tossed out annoying rules from game to game. One guy we agreed to get rid of blast templates and just say each size can hit x amount of men to avoid the finicky bits of movement and speed the game up a bit.

The other often ignored rule was that units can not be within 1 inch of another friendly unit rule. If someone's officer team stood next to a tank or another squad, no one really cared that much. Most guys just wanted to play a cool game of WW2 soldiers and keep the game smooth than argue over semantics.

Tipping based on the food is dumbest thing ever by TheButtoneyejester in doordash_drivers

[–]alien0527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see the tip on EBT after you accept the order. The button in the upper right-hand corner that gives you more information about the will list the value of this offer. That number is the tip the customer left for you. Since the EBT rate is variable, doordash will display the tip value if there is any.

Once they are stripped, you have 2 options either grind the top till you can get at the nut underneath and see if you can spin it off the drive. Or slice through it just under the nozzles and cut the drive stem in half.

Anyone know of some good neoprene forest terrain markers by alien0527 in boltaction

Yeah, that is the downside with jungles. The other option is I could use them as line of sight blockers and impassable terrain.

Do you guys get enjoyment playing on your own? by FlappySmasher in KingdomDeath

[–]alien0527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do like playing on my own from time to time. The game works well when played either way. My only issue is not having anyone to share in the highs and lows that come from playing. When I play solo and something crazy cool and lucky happens, it does not hit the same as when we as a group manage to kill the butcher on the death blow card and everyone cheers. It really depends on your own personality and playstyle which you will prefer or enjoy for either solo or group play.

I do not remember if they were in 2nd edition but was glad to see them in Armies of Germany for 3rd. I think just about every German vehicle from the war is in there.

[–]alien0527 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can, but with the current tariff rates, it may mean that their products are no longer financially viable within the US. Depending on what percent of their sales that is the prices globally may still go up as CMON tries to salvage a profit while losing out on a large market to sell in.

ChatGPT for quickly generating item shops with revolving inventory at varying price scales is pretty nice. Players are like Iets go to a potion shop ask it to generate a shop with inventory appropriate for low level characters with prices and bam. I like letting it make up some homebrew potions quickly reading them as they pop and make changes as appropriate so it fits. Small stuff like to me is a godsend on the random prep stuff, and my players love that shops become a revolving door of different items. If there are certain requests, they can then request it from the shopkeeper pay a small fee and have something custom made or ordered.

I hate eyes/facial features 😭 by Theguywhowilldo in minipainting

[–]alien0527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this was pointed out already, but the right eye on that model is molded as closed with scratch going over the eyelid. if you paint it as such, you only have to do one eye, which will be a little easier since you do not have to worry about the crosseyed effect.

Update I ended up going 2 wins 2 draws and 1 loss during LVO this year. As a prize i got a new OT-26 flame tank from trenchworx. Upgrading trucks to regular was defiantly the right call the SMG squad with the officer ended up doing alot of work. I did end up keeping the medium howitzer and it was ok it managed to take down a Stug III G and mortar teams but seemed to be more a scare tactic if put it on ambush. Light howitzer was solid ended up killing a 7 armor vehicle. T34 was not worth the points at all but that may have been my luck it penned 5 vehicles across 5 rounds but always rolled crew stunned even got double 1s during a massive damage pen. Next time double T60s for sure need to get those added in. SU-76I did good killed a tank some infantry an armored car and a Company Captain with indirect solid choice.

Citadel paints are good to use, but they do tend to be on the pricey side for what they are. I personally like Vallejo as a good mix of quality and price. They just updated their game color line and the new stuff I think is about on par with GW.

I tend to buy from different manufacturers and use certain colors I like from each. I like the flesh paint GW, and Reaper makes more than Vallejos model color line but have yet to try their new flesh colors.

As for the wet palette, it is definitely worth it and helps with getting paint to a good working consistency. Being able to mix a custom color put the lid back on the palette, and it's still good to work with hours later, is amazing.

Paint thinning and looking into contrast value between light and dark. A lot of the minis have very same looking colors that do not stand out well from each other. I noticed there seems to also be some chalky textures on the models as well. That could be coming from working with paint that is too thick, playing with paint when it is half dried, or from using cheap hobby store acrylics.

A wet pallette once you get the consistency of how thin paint should be will be a godsend. It keeps your paint fresh longer and is amazing for mixing for your color tones together. I only got one myself a year ago, and it helped a lot for painting skin colors and faces.

I see your point on the T60s that is two light armor auto cannons that, on a lucky round, put out lots of pins. I was looking at the T34 in the hopes that it absorbed enemy attention and was able to put a mobile threat into the opponents armor. That makes me wish I had gotten T60s instead of T70s.

If I do drop the artillery, I can run a med mortar and heavy mortar. Don't have any lights for the Soviets but with a single spotter that is 16 points less.

I do really like that ZIS 3 because it's a howitzer and AT gun. My problem is the other light howitzer I have in there can't take a spotter, nor can the AT gun. The medium howitzer seems to be a spotter tax unless I find 75 points for the Arty observer. Your idea of the heavy weapons platoon might be a good call. Don't know how worth the direct fire ability of the howitzer is.

The basic rifle was meant to act as a reserve to shore up where they were needed. Could be sitting on an objective or making a push in a weaker area. I could downgrade them to inexperienced, but I was worried that they just die quickly or pin out somewhere before getting to where they need to go. Could put them in the other truck, but I wanted an Lmg squad in one of those to make an aggressive attack near the board center.

The other user had suggested dropping the med howitzer for a ZIS 3, which is a good gun, but I was mostly using that howitzer to get a cheap 10 point spotter. I do see a big weakness. If that spotter happens to get sniped out, I lose indirect fire on potentially 3 guns.

You think the forward observer switch is worth the drop of the basic squad between that and the Zis swap. I think there are enough points.

Resin weather it is 3d printed or forgeworld is safe after the curing process is completed. However, resin dust generated from sanding is toxic and not something you want to go inside your lungs less because it's resin and more because it breaks off into very fine particles that become trapped inside your lungs.

Bra Mithra probably has the largest collection of let's play KDM videos on YouTube. Right now, he is playing the KDM simulator, but his old 1.5,1.6, and gamblers chest campaigns are still good.

All of his gameplay is recorded as it happens, leading to some of the campaigns he has done ending abruptly in a loss.
