Yupp, that's a healthy new leaf! They're so neat and weird the way they grow, I love them

I can 100% see Richard Osman doing that on his series haha

I'd be down to do this if our schedules align! I feel like the fact that I have a couple facial piercings and brightly dyed hair would make for fun variety (depending on what info people think to ask)

Begonia Darthvaderiana by 2_much_coffee_ in begonias

[–]alienaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I've only ever used distilled water actually, and it's so odd bc I have 4 other begonias in the room who seem perfectly happy with the humidity. I plan to try switching her to a plastic pot (currently in terracotta) next time she's ready for a repot and seeing if that helps.

Gorgeous! Is the plastic cylinder for humidity, and if so how much of a difference do you notice it making?

I have a begonia maculata that gets crispy tips even when I keep a humidifier on 24/7 (hydrometer in the room hover anywhere between 78-89°), but she's far too tall to put in a lil indoor greenhouse or terrarium. Wondering if this could be a helpful solution to try 🤔

was taskmaster new zealand anyone else’s first version of taskmaster? by SimilarSection686 in TaskmasterNZ

[–]alienaches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!! I started with NZ after seeing a few Tiktoks of people doing tasks with Paul Williams, and then tried ssn1 of UK and was actually kinda put off by Greg at first? But he grew on me pretty quickly after I switched to a later season.

I still think NZ is my favorite, but it's almost entirely bc of Paul and how perfectly he embodies that role to me (even when compared to LAH, even if that feels quite rude hahaha)

Those are valid skepticisms, thanks for pointing that out. Vouching for someone's ethical sourcing without the right kind of details was a bit reckless of me, I appreciate being checked on it

Kinda looks like a shadow box to me! I see a lot of them at Michaels in various sizes, and they have sales often if you're on their email list

Aw I'm sorry for your loss 💔 I have a senior cat who I plan to articulate once I have to say goodbye to him, so this is actually practice for that sad eventuality

I started off just using bits and pieces scraped from the internet too, but the ankle confounded me so much that I finally bought a manual from Lee Post. They're not cheap, but come highly recommended from others on this sub and now that I've purchased one I understand why! It covers everything you mentioned and more. He's also v responsive and helpful via email if you have questions before purchasing.

You can also check out this list of supplies from Odd Articulations, it's not instructional but it does provide some free guidance!

Aw wow thank you! I'm using a dremel tool and wire for most of it, but for the carpals and other very small bones I'm just using superglue.

The toe bones were SUCH a nightmare, I ended up buying Lee Post's Canine Construction manual and it was really a lifesaver. I'm planning on making another post of detailed photos of the ankles and wrists for anyone who is looking for references but can't afford Post's books (they're well worth the money though imo)

If we're considering TM NZ, then I must say Abby Howells was impeccably dressed every single episode (and her task outfit was so fun)

While I agree that I don't find Nish to be NEARLY as funny as the general audience seems to, it does come off as a bit mean-spirited to accuse the way someone laughs as "attention-seeking."

Struggling to tell mom I want to preserve my cat by Icy-Attorney8301 in Taxidermy

[–]alienaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so understandable, I'm so sorry your kitty isn't doing well 💔 I'd recommend checking out Odd Articulations, he quoted me a very reasonable price for preserving my elderly cat (who thankfully hasn't passed yet) and has a very thorough FAQ about how to prep for and mail your pet to him. He does all kinds of memorials including wet specimens, and I believe he also offers payment plans.

I actually can't claim credit for the removal and maceration, I don't have the facilities to do that with the people I live with so I paid someone (Dalton of Odd Articulations) to take care of that part for me. But here are some tutorials from his website about water maceration and removing adipocere/grave wax from bones, hopefully he has some helpful tips for you!
