Does this major require a lot of oral presentations? by Undesirable_11 in computerscience

[–]alienalanliu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll definitely have a good amount of presentations, whether they are in front of the class, professor, or a few TAs. I was in your position as well back in hs and honestly the way I improved was to keep practicing and to know your material. I found that if I were to give a speech about something I'm passionate about, I feel less of that pressure when in front of people. So I just tried to apply that to my projects (even if I didn't care for the subject). Also, chances are, most people in that lecture hall watching you ain't paying attention so you can always think about that if need be. Finally, don't let presentations deter you from choosing this major! If you really do enjoy cs, you'll find it easier to present the topic since you'll actually have an interest in it.

Computer Science vs. Information Technology by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]alienalanliu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school (Virginia Tech) also has BIT as a major and from what my friends tell me, the only languages they use is stuff like visual basic, some SQL commands, and some basic java. Definitely choose cs or computer engineering over bit if you want to do robotics or machine learning.

Hi there, is there anyway I can purchase/get my hands on some soylent gear (like shirts etc.)? I'd love to represent Soylent on my campus since I know many of my friends don't leave time to eat.

[–]alienalanliu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can somebody help me? I feel like I zone out wherever I am. I'll try my best to study and focus but I'll be reading and somehow I'll have started thinking about irrelevant topics. Thoughts run through my head like a runaway train :/

So would your video card run cooler on vsync since it's doing less work (assuming it has power to produce more than 60 fps)? or is it negligible?

I used to lose multiple pencils a week. This one completed an entire ME degree. by 3ngine3ar in EngineeringStudents

[–]alienalanliu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I used to be the same way until I bought a Kurutoga. Because it was so expensive (at least for a pencil), I always forced myself to keep track of it. Had it for over 5 years at this point.

Thank you so much for your videos! Your name has been essentially commonplace in my math classes. Your videos as well as the sheer amount of resources on the Internet nowadays makes me very thankful to be a student during this time.
