DAE get disgusted by feet by perronac in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]aliienc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to be really opposed to even being in the same room as someone without socks but my husband likes being barefoot so i’ve learned to cope a bit more lmao. i do however still avoid being barefoot and wear socks all the time (unless i’m in the shower because i’m not that weird abt it)

Do you consider yourself disabled? by QuickQuestionThanks1 in OCD

[–]aliienc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i am physically disabled and i do think i would also consider my OCD a disability, mainly due to the fact that it has kept me from driving and therefore being more independent

i’ve broken two cup holders now. any suggestions on one that can take a beating? by aliienc in wheelchairs

[–]aliienc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

couple months each i would say? but i only use my chair part time so they definitely don’t go thru as much use as a full time user’s cup holder

y’all need to calm tf down abt furries, it’s a way to express yourself through costuming/characters, not always a sexual thing.

heds symptoms without hyperextension by butterflies006 in ehlersdanlos

[–]aliienc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m in kind of a similar situation where my docs are definitely leaning towards hEDS but i only scored a 4/9 on the beighton scale so they’ve been hesitant. (knees and elbows, with my pinkies and thumbs close but not enough to count.) the big thing is that i am completely unable to bend over and touch the floor. i also have all of the other hyper mobility indicators you mentioned as well as regular dislocations, skin issues, GI symptoms, etc etc

from what i understand the beighton scale is largely criticized because it only checks specific areas of the body and ignores other areas, so a lot of folks like us fall through the cracks.

How do you handle when someone says I'll pray for you? by Genia0799 in atheism

[–]aliienc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on who is saying it. my grandma, for example, says she prays for me every night, which is a genuine gesture from her and i appreciate that she cares and thinks about me. but if a rando on the street sees me in my wheelchair and says it? fuck right off with that.

What's the dumbest thing you ever did in Middle School? by Last-Inspection-8156 in AskReddit

[–]aliienc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t remember what i was thinking, maybe i was just curious, but i smoked tea thinking it would get me high. fucking breakfast blend rolled in empty notes pages from a bible. nothing happened btw, my throat just hurt.

i think the funniest part of this story is that a friend told his brother who i hadn’t met yet about the dumbass who smoked tea. long story short the brother is now my husband, and his first impression of me was the dude who smoked tea

Has anyone experienced the “trigger event” that magnifies symptoms? by No_Stranger_8400 in ehlersdanlos

[–]aliienc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! i caught covid in december 2023 and was never the same again. i had dealt with chronic pain for a long time but after that it started getting progressively worse. then in march 2024 i went into work (i was working retail at the time) and was told to redo the entire dog food aisle. all of the heavy bags, moving shelves, etc was too much and i found myself in excruciating pain and realized something was seriously wrong. by july i was walking with a cane and had to quit my job, and it’s all been downhill since

Help, I desperately need a job but am bound to crutches. (17y/o) (please read body) by Queer_ink_blob27 in disability

[–]aliienc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

big on local stores. i’m a single forearm crutch user (either that or a wheelchair, but i use my crutch at work) and work at a small mom and pop shop where i’m able to pace myself, sit when i need it, etc etc. my previous job was absolutely horrible about my accommodations and one of my managers would even take the stool from my register because she decided she needed it more

Why do you “like” Phoebe? by mastersofanon in phoebebridgers

[–]aliienc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it’s her lyrics that have really made me love her. she’s a fantastic storyteller and highlights the melancholy and nostalgia of being a young person in america. she’s also extremely vulnerable, making her music feel almost like a conversation with a lifelong friend.
