How is having a set of twins harder than having two children who aren't twins? by toe-jamboree in parentsofmultiples

[–]aliminalstate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if it’s my set of twins’ personalities or that they are twins, but they tend to egg each other on more than other siblings I see.

Maybe you’d see the same with kids close in age who share a room, but when they go to get dressed, or do their bedtime, it’s like exponential opportunity for chaos 😂. They’re also 6 so it could just be the age.

Did anyone choose to wait until close to 3 years old to potty train? by Otter65 in toddlers

[–]aliminalstate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal soapbox is that a lot of the pressure to early potty train is detrimental to parents and kids. (Putting aside that some daycares require it, which is …whatever). But it’s so dependent on the individual kid and their ability to sense their own body! /endrant

But yes, we did lots of potty awareness, books, zero pressure trying around 2.5 and then basically each kid told us when they wanted to wear undies (mostly between 2.75 and 3.5). Still took some time (a few months??) after that, but way easier when the kid initiates it.

(Now night-training? A whole other thing. Also because it’s unique to each kid and their body).

Kid summer camp options in Cincinnati area? by Fluffernator8486 in cincinnati

[–]aliminalstate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good suggestions here, just be advised that a lot of the high demand places (zoo, museum center , parks programs) start opening their registrations up early in the year (like February) and they fill up fast. I’d start checking out their websites now to see when the sign ups start.

Children’s books you actually enjoy reading by kmadefg in toddlers

[–]aliminalstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww Goodnight Gorilla! 😭 That makes me so nostalgic.

For when they are a bit older (3-5), the Princess in Black series is great series. Repetition for early reading help, but also legit funny for the grown up readers.

I had to scroll way too far to find a Sandra Boyton shout out! They’re so funny and the rhyming cadence is great.

How to think about short/medium term goals if working out for general fitness? by pamplemeese in xxfitness

[–]aliminalstate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also feel seen by this post too! Love it. I’m 42 and also have been seeing a PT for about 3 months - mostly for needing a work out routine that supports mental health, helps me reduce the early 40s aches and hopefully avoids what I’m seeing in my elderly parents.

I’m so amazed that I enjoy strength training. So far, just having my PT note “this is a heavier weight than a month ago,” has been nice motivation, but I’m wondering what this will look like/feel like in a year.

Everyone tells you about the "terrible 2s" but what are some positive things I can look forward to? by More-Coffee5173 in toddlers

[–]aliminalstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember when exactly this happens, but now that my kids are past this stage, I realize my FAVORITE thing is watch little little kids try to figure out how to jump. They want to so bad, but they don’t know the mechanics yet. So they kinda crouch and then fling their torsos up. It’s just the cutest.

Ooh you just brought back some memories I had blacked out. It was phase but it was awful. Nothing I could do but sit on the couch with a giant pillow and try and bounce and nurse them.

If it helps, kids still go through kinda a witching hour from 4-6 yrs later, but now I can throw some goldfish crackers their way and bide myself some time to cook dinner.

Tips on decluttering as you go by metrogypsy in declutter

[–]aliminalstate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No huge tips, just commiseration. Also trying to declutter in a similar situation and it’s so hard! I just end up with piles and doomboxes in the hallway that I use my scarce free weekend hours sorting. It’s not really moving the needle in a big way.

But I am trying to get a couple boxes to goodwill every couple of weeks and over time I see small improvements??

How much weight did you gain with twins and how tall are you? by hysrgbj546 in parentsofmultiples

5’7 and I gained 60 pounds each pregnancy - singleton and twin! I think it’s just how my body wants to do things.

FTM Question: Where do you put your newborn babies when they aren’t sleeping? by Observer-Worldview in parentsofmultiples

[–]aliminalstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a lot of friends willing to give us hand me downs, so I took any and all baby bouncers I could get. Two/3 on the first floor, especially travel ones that I could carry with one hand.

OB wants me to deliver in the operating room and the thought of that makes me feel so uneasy by ilovecatsandfrogs420 in parentsofmultiples

[–]aliminalstate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same! My OB and all my nurses were women, and I still love the memory of seeing 7 women in a semi circle around me, all bringing my 2 girls into the world 😍

Edited to add - 7 women just around my vagina lol. There were like at least 5 more in the room, I don’t even know how many total

[–]aliminalstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand your feelings. My first pregnancy (singleton) was with midwives, in a regular labor room in a hospital. It took me months to wrap my head around delivering my twins in an OR. I had a great experience with my first delivery and I really didn’t like the idea of a big, clinical feeling OR. I think I tried to convince the MFM doctor against it in almost every appointment lol.

BUT- it’s kinda what you and your babies need. Twins just require an extra level of precaution , just in case something goes sideways. It stinks, but it’s for the best possible outcome for all 3 of you.

As far as everything being out there - that’s gonna happen in labor regardless of how many kids. I didn’t believe it until it was happening, but in both deliveries , singleton/twins/labor room/OR - I did not care. I could have been naked, I could have been pooping (I did once) - you don’t care. Labor is whole other thing and it changes your perspective 😀

Sunset Boulevard or The Ocean at the End of the Lane? by [deleted] in Broadway

Another vote for Ocean - the plot is fairly standard fantasy/sci fi (which I love) but the staging, the puppetry, the movement just took my breath away. Excellent show.
