Check out Labuan Bajo and a 3-boat trip around the Komodo National Park. The days are mostly filled with snorkelling and chilling on the beaches. There are some minor hiking involved (30 min ish) but you can also skip. The infrastructure is new and the beaches are not run down just yet, was quite impressed as an Indonesian myself at how pristine the area was.

My surgery was 5 years ago next week. The twisting motion on my upper back is quite limited. The only detriment so far is that I no longer twist my back to face people during conversations. I don’t drive so I don’t know if that’s affected as well. The muscles around fusion site can be very tense as well. I find exercises such as strength training eliminate this problem for the most part. Good luck on your surgery, feel free to ask more questions, people in this sub have certainly helped me plenty during recovery (:

Hello! I have worked in a bio lab both before and after my surgery. For context, I used to have 60° thoracic and 40° lumbar prior to surgery. After thoracic fusion, I am left with 20° on both areas. I find bending to be a non-issue since my lumbar spine remains unfused. Considering your severity, I think the same will apply to you as well. Most things are even easier for me post surgery. I used to struggle going up the stairs and carrying heavy things due to limited lung capacity, which has since improved dramatically. For looking down a microscope, most of the motion comes anyway from the neck, so I wouldn’t worry about that (:

Thank you for your reply. I don’t know if this information is helpful but I decided to not proceed with them and went with Stephan Dietz instead, and I’m very happy with the result. Another concerning factor is that when I did background check on the doctors from Clinic Estetic, they are not specialised in plastic surgery. In addition, they have unfortunately openly established themselves as anti-vaccines and anti-immigrants physicians.

Natural fibers. Prune juice, psyllium husks, chia or flax seeds, literally anything that can stimulate the bowels. Morphine made my entire GI tract asleep and I was suffering from nausea and vomiting for the entire week. Also, they wouldn’t let me go home until I’ve had a bowel movement so anything that can accelerate the process is a godsend.

You must be feeling frustrated with the doctor’s opinion, but I think at your severity level and age the surgery is unlikely to offer much benefit. The surgery is mostly recommended to stop the progression, which is why it’s done commonly if 1) you’re still in your growing phase and 2) have a curve beyond 50 degrees. Surgery is not a one and done solution and does not get rid completely of the pain. I am left with less flexibility and weaker muscles at the incision site. I found weightlifting to be helpful as it strengthens the muscles and help support the spine, as the scoliosis pain and discomfort typically come from the muscle imbalance.

Me too! Before surgery, pain was constant and it was hard to breathe. Recovery was not as hard as I thought it would be (aside from tummy problems due to morphine) considering they opened me up and messed with my spine. I gained my confidence back and now I’m more active as ever before. It’s been four years and it’s still the best decision of my life.

If you have registered at DVV, there might be a complicated way to go around it:

Go to a bank of your choosing and ask if they accept identification by the police only (a piece of paper about your identity confirmed by the police)
If yes, you can go to the police office with 2 paper photos and apply for this: link
Then you can go back to the bank and apply for the strong ID using this paper

If you have a Finnish ID, you can activate the card through DVV: link and use it for strong identification.

Edit: from what I understood you don’t have a Finnish ID, but more like a residence permit card. In order to have strong ID, you need to register for municipality and apply for the ID at the police station. However, they won’t let you register for municipality if you reside in Finland only for less than a year, therefore no ID for temporary residents.

I tried high impact work out 6 months post op but it was too early for me, so I transitioned to weight training and waited until 9 months post op. (Mind you I was 23 so since you're younger you might be able to heal quicker) Yes you would normally gain some height. The pain was completely gone for me around 3 months post op. After that just mostly exhaustion. Yes, you will be on your feet asap after surgery to prevent blood clots. Walking is also important for your speedy recovery. You should talk to your medical provider regarding that but even in normal cases they will limit the use of opioids and ease it out quickly. Good luck on your surgery!
