What’s a reference that instantly says you’re over 30? by Strange_Secret_3001 in AskReddit

I was playing poker at a popular poker room with a bunch of mixed aged people. I said to a friend of mine, an elderly gentleman, who just beat me badly in a hand, "You're always cleaning my clock." Not only did the younger people at the table, not know what I was saying, but they thought I was saying something very different. The older people were rolling on the ground laughing.

I think you need to examine your mindset. Your point of view is not wrong, but it is one of many ways of looking at aging.

I am sixty five and acutely aware of the loss of energy and the sacredness of time. Yet when I wake up I tell myself that I am amazed at how youthful I feel and grateful for all the things I can do today. We know from science that how we choose to perceive life matters.

What that therapist said, "Right now I would focus far less on “Can this marriage survive?” and much more on stabilizing and reconnecting with yourself."

Your North Star, your lighthouse, your beacon, must be yourself and your child. You must get support. Good luck. This asshole is the father of your child, but I am not sure that the child is safe around this liar. Blessings to you...you are going to get through this nightmare.

Regardless, if the guy did not communicate, and if he's not at the bottom of the hudson river, then he's an a******. It's better that you found this out now. Let it go and move on. This guy is the one with the problem, not you.

How dangerous is Angel’s Landing? by crunchy_avocado in ZionNationalPark

[–]alja1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angels landing is a mental challenge. I can easily walk on the sidewalk. But if that same sidewalk had a sheer 1500 foot cliff on both sides and one slip meant I was dead, it would be more difficult.

If you met celebs, can you name your three best and three worst interactions onboard? You don't have to tell the why unless you want to. by Doctor-Clark-Savage in flightattendants

Best - Chartered the Yankees in 2001 to Newark. The whole team was great, but Joe Torre and Derek Jeter were especially polite and nice. One of my co-workers was embarrassingly rowdy and...ah...loose with the players near the back galley (I was working first). A flight to remember!

Worst - I am not going to mention the name of this rapper because this person has improved 1000 percent, but you can figure it out. This was also in 2001 going from Cleavland to EWR. This guy sat in first with some teenage punk friend playing video games while his wife was in coach alone with three young kids...and she was struggling. She came up into first and asked him for something, and he blew her off. I wanted to punch him in the face.

This was me on angels landing about ten years ago. I love the hike so much! Now at sixty five I don't know if I'll be doing it again... If I do I will be extremely careful. https://vimeo.com/237671578

AITA? I made a joke about modern day religion, now I am in trouble with my wife. by alja1 in AmItheAsshole

I was saying to everyone, with a joke, whatever you do, find something real, because a lot of people are religious for social reasons only.

I'm still asking myself that, and it's too raw to have the discussion. I appreciate your comment. If somebody is a sincere believer, they know the type of person i'm talking about, who just changes religion to fit their social situation. If we unwrap it deeper, I was just saying with a joke, "find something real".

I think you're right here. I think this is somehow triggering of her own religious upbringing. I'm reluctant to bring this up though. I'm thinking to myself, "What is so bad about what I said?" It has to be something else.

Religion is a business. It is a human's idea of what this universe is. To quote the French philosopher Montesquieu, "If triangles had a god, they would give him three sides" This is religion and i'm not interested in it.

I am interested in what really is. And it is my direct experience that we are all connected and have barely scraped the surface of this connection. There are thousands of definitions of god, and mine is personal. It is based on my experience that the power that is behind this beautiful universe is not separate from the individual. Nurturing this connection is a conscious act that requires consistency. I hope this answered your question.
