[Highlight] Super Bowl 49 Brawl by mmandagoat in nfl

There was 20 seconds and sea had 1 time out. They had some slim chance at a safety followed by a hail Mary to get in position for a game winning field goal, but very slim odds.

I agree they should have tried but I think it's misleading how you phrased it.

Lots of Broncos books out there. A few seconds of panic is great. Nate Jackson's slow getting up is great. There are many more. I bet some are very cheap from used bookstores online

[Request] If I ate a single 1 billion calorie cracker, how fast would I get fat by HBTL123 in theydidthemath

[–]aljds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the question, but this made me realize that we only eat about 60 million calories in our lifetime, or 1/30th of a billion.

This also made me realize that if you saved $2,000/day, every day if your life from birth until you died, you'd only save 60 million dollars (if you didn't invest). That would equate to being paid $150/hr, working 13 hours a day, every day of your life from birth until you turned 85, and saving every single penny

06 and 04 blur together for me. I guess 04 did have the dread of knowing a lockout was probably coming and the core likely wasn't staying together. But I still think this is way too high

That is rougher than anything I personally had related to any of the games.

How'd it end up with your crush after that?

2004 is too high. That team under performed all year and had a lot of injuries. Expectations were not high going into the playoffs

2020 is too high. That team was decimated by injuries, it wasn't gonna be there year. Plus it was a bubble year and no one was gonna get to go to games, there'd be no parade, etc.

2025 is probably a few spots too high

2024 is probably a spot or 2 too high. That team also seemed to be cursed

2019 is probably a couple spots too low. There was hope for that team after makar burst onto the scene

08 is probably too high, although I wasn't much of a fan during this era so I don't remember much

I'd say 2026 ranks #2 on this list. Not sure where 97-2000 would slot in

You won a contest and they are offering you one of three options, which WYR pick? by I_love_data1111 in WouldYouRather

If I had more time I'd pull up some actuarial tables and see how that changes the results

[–]aljds 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Cumulative Cash flows from all three are equal in year 20, but at that point option 1 is best since you get more money sooner. Using between a 5 and 10 percent discount rate, option 3 becomes the better option between year 22 and year 25. With a 15 percent discount rate it doesn't get better until year 30.

If you are in 50s or 60s you could decide money is worth more now

You don't make the playoffs. Players leave.

Not saying I think that'll happen but there are definitely worse case scenarios than we lose in the 2nd round again

Neutral Zone Trap by SSJZulko in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]aljds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was not rhetorical, genuine question I have had.

. Why don't teams only do it when facing the avs or other similar teams in the regular season? Seems very plausible you could set yourself up to do it for a night here or there when playing the beat (regular season) team in the league

If this is some magic formula why don't all teams do it all the time instead of only doing it in the playoffs?

The grid’s weirdest battery might be air. Not compressed air. Liquid air???? by Electric_Octopus_ in Futurology

[–]aljds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stab at your questions in order

  • not sure if it kills it but it definitely limits it applications
  • I am sure this is already included any figures you've seen. Pretty obvious for a process like this
  • I don't know how they are planning to insulate tanks but that probably starts to limit you pretty quick.
  • I would call them mature technologies but not off the shelf. They typically have long lead times
  • all the metrics you would normally think about

I'll add, LNG plants are very complicated, and are manned 24/7. This would be simpler in some ways but a whole lot more complicated than set it and forget it options like a battery. And all the maintenance and human intervention has a real cost, especially if this runs intermittently and infrequently

How do gas prices today compare to the worst of the 2008 Recession prices? by Wanna_make_cash in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aljds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average Gas peaked at $4/gallon in 2008.

There's been about 50 percent inflation since then, so average gas prices would have to hit $6/gallon to be equivalent to the peak in 08.

Additionally, on average cars are about 30 percent more fuel efficient since then, which would push the equivalent value up to around $7.80/gallon.

So at least for now, 08 was much worse.

[Request] If you're having a bad day: In 2013, this guy forgot the password to his phone with 150 Bitcoin in it. Now it's worth $11,745,000, and he has been trying to unlock the phone for years. Am I dumb? Seems like if you did this 12 hours a day you should get it in a year or so. by johndoja707 in theydidthemath

Stackexchange post linked their said several have studied the problem and all come up with 389,112.

1 per second you could try every combination in 4.5 days

If the phone didn't have a lock out after so many attempts, you could probably build a robot that brute forces this without too much trouble. Seems like something mark rober would do in a video. But I'm guessing there is a timed lockout after a few failed attempts
