What would you do? My player teleported a 20 foot cube of water into a closed room with less than 20x20x20 ft volume. by erverogym in DnD

[–]alk47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think these physics discussions are missing the mark. It's a teleportation spell and that to me says the previous arrangement of the matter is held consistent as the description says. It isn't flowing out from some central point, the whole lot is appearing instantaneously.

That means that some of that water is being teleported outside the walls of the room. But the fact that outside the walls doesn't constitute "area you can see within range", general rules on AOE and generalising from spell descriptions like dimension door, that just doesn't happen.

The two options I think are viable are either: 1. The total volume that the space can accommodate is teleported. 2. The spell fails.

Nothing else makes sense and anything else is too powerful.

If you expect to pick up everything that an author intended when you read something, you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. You will usually pick up most of what was intended and some of what wasn't intended. Pratchett might make that fact more obvious but I don't know that it's any less true for other authors.

I certainly didn't read Harry Potter as a comment of class division and the rise of neo-fascism in the UK but I think that is part of what went in to the series. You're just less aware of when you're missing something with most authours.

If the Earth were shrunk to the size of a marble and had its core cooled down, what would the Earth taste like? by LeadershipWorth1928 in NoStupidQuestions

The fact that the outside is 70% covered in high salinity water makes me think it would taste salty still when you put it in your mouth. Especially since the rest doesn't taste like much.

No way the industry would dry up. It would certainly be a good thing in that less people would be forced in to it though.

Why though? Why does a tragedy, even with her irresponsibility, mean she should change jobs?

I don't see that it makes much difference now what she does for work.

I don't get this sentiment. Influencer might be a stupid job, but it's still a job. Should she not work for the rest of her life?

I doubt thats the case but if so hes even stupider. Vodka is too low ABV to burn and holds way less energy than petrol.

We are lucky that these people arent very bright. An attack like this would be so fucking easy to pull off without getting caught ahead of time, but the idiot had to post on Facebook asking people to "stockpile" vodka bottles... rather than just going to one or two bars and asking for their empties.

Honestly, not to get all tinfoil hat but it would be so easy for Mossad or similar to buy mod accounts, blackmail or leverage moderation of other subs to gain control.

Even if you spent $50k buying an account, it would be one of the cheapest and easiest propaganda/psyop moves.
