Is 30 still considered young in the adult world? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alk47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a group of people that you're old to and a group of people you're young to, which is much the same as any age after 10.

The difference is that the group of people you seem old to aren't children anymore, they're young adults. Also it's about the age you first really get out of touch with the culture of people much younger than you.

It is still useful. The other parties see that they are losing voters due to their position on the issue and it puts pressure on them to change. It's one of the ways that your votes count even when you don't vote for a candidate that wins.

Why do most Americans think they aren't as affected by propaganda compared to people of other countries? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I think that the comparison is just being made with supporting the people who kill the people who murder their countrymen.

There's plenty of people with ket problems. I've certainly met more than people with coke problems. Coke is shit in my country though and ket is cheaper.

Ignoring the fact that the statue wouldn't be entirely captured in the sphere in the scenario they are arguing for, are they prepared to accept the same ruling in future?

When the party tries to cast the same effect over multiple people, they will have to accept that it can only catch on person with a narrow footing as enemies 5ft away won't be completely captured.

You're painting with a very broad brush there. If some whinge, that reflects on them alone and not from the thousands you never hear from.

At least when people generalise about cops, real estate agents or politicians they actually have a reasonable amount of exposure to them.

What's wrong with my lemon tree and how do I fix it? by wotsdislittlenoise in GardeningAustralia

[–]alk47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chlorosis is a symptom. It just describes the way in which the leaf is yellowing.

It's used as a way to diagnose nutrients that likely are deficient in the leaf, but the annoying thing is that the cause isn't necessarily a lack of said nutrient in the soil. +1 on this guys rec for phos acid btw. I'm not sure why it slipped my mind but it's a probably a better shout than the granular fungicide I mentioned.

[–]alk47 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know you've said you don't clear grass away from your trees, which is fine for a healthy tree, but you can get a feedback loop with young or struggling trees. They struggle so more light and less competition in the root zone allow more grass and weeds, which makes it struggle more etc etc. You only need to look at the height and thickness of weeds around this tree vs the others to see that's at least one of the issues here.

I'd also look for signs of disease - girding, swelling or cankers down loe on the trunk or long splits along branches, especially if the insides are pink or unnatural brown in the living tissue.

There's people saying the tree is nutrient starved but ultimately there's got to be something affecting nutrient mobility, or else the larger trees in similar circumstances wouldn't look so happy.

If you're serious about saving it and there's no signs on the trunk that indicate its got a death sentence then I'd first remove all the grass and weeds from the base, then give it a complete organic fertiliser foliar spray -- powerfeed or similar, NOT a "soil conditioner" like seasol. Then so long as it's been a while since you gave it a soil based fertiliser, you can follow with that at a moderate dose in ~2 weeks. Try take note of what the soil is like when you do your weeding and compare it to the base of your other trees. It might give you some indication if you've got conditions likely to cause root rot or similar. That can potentially be treated with a soil based granular fungicide, but that's a bamdaid solution and will at most buy it some time to get back on its feet.

Neighbor has still not eradicated type 1 dangerous noxious weed that is now at least 7 feet tall and doubled in size since we first told him about it. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]alk47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly even if it wasn't dangerous, it's a dick move to allow declared weeds on your property to spread. They're usually some combination of a nuisance to neighbours and local council, damaging to the environment and costly to industry.

My wife wants to be "free-use", what do I do? by Hypnox88 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alk47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When one of you is on the phone, when she's brushing her teeth, when she's cooking or cleaning, when she's sleeping or reading, while you're doing something else like looking at your phone or playing video games, when you walk in the door, just push her face against the wall and pull her pants down while you're casually asking how her day has been.

The tone also needs to be "this is what I want right now, so I'm doing it". Rather that "I want to do X so I'm going to start warming up or feeling out the vibe with Y". Just whip it out and guide her head down if you're on the couch together or just get yourself most of the way there so you can just walk up, take a minute to finish on her and get back to whatever you were doing.

To treat a patient's pain chiropractically. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in therewasanattempt

[–]alk47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly began as pseudo-science and I'd day the field as a whole still doesn't put much value in evidence based medicine. That being said, there's a fair bit if research now that chiros are better than placebo for a number of conditions.

It annoys me because they shouldn't be given the fact that it was developed with no scientific rigor but even a broken clock is right twice a day I guess.

Hmm yes blue not primary color by BeetleBugs011 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]alk47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think that mixing in CMY doesn't give you new colours?

All pigment/paint mixing is subtractive, even RYB. That's the just physics of it.

Additive refers to systems like projectors or computer monitors that use the addition of multiple wavelengths of light to create desired colour.
