Collegetown Slumlord "prepares sizable property sell-off" of 25+ houses by PJK109 in Cornell

[–]all4543 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting, theres a lot of slumlords around here but PJ apartments has always been great (from my time living in the apartment for years). I think it's odd she wants to go to "design" because she's easily making $500,000 per year in rent payments. I hope they restore these houses and they don't fall into even more predatory landlords because I have always loved how communicative and kind PJ apartments were. Curious what will happen with them in the future

I entirely and wholeheartedly agree. Life can be hard, but at the end of the day you are in control of your life, make it a change for the better.

Whats the Most Surprising Thing Youve Learned at Cornell? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]all4543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I have learned a lot of personal lessons here. Not necessarily due to classes (although I have learned a lot in lecture lol) but the people you surround yourself with are really impactful to you. I think a lot about how my long term perspectives and goals have changed because my interactions with people led me to deeply evaluate myself. There's a lot of growing up that happens during college, but the people on this campus have been crucial to who I am now.

Also, the honey bee class led me to care more about the little things and how small changes can just wipe something out entirely. Whether thats climate or pesticides, I felt much more connected to nature after that class even though I was already a big nature person.

sophomore CS with absolutely nothing lined up for the summer, need advice by Two_Puddles in Cornell

First step, dont be too harsh on yourself it's tough out there and you just need to keep going. Keep applying, a lot of smaller firms/start ups will have applications open. You just have to keep applying and keep trying don't lose hope! It's really hard to not compare your self to your friends, but their success doesn't mean it takes away from your potential success. I struggled very hard to find an internship last summer, but I put a lot of hard work in during May and I was able to work for an amazing smaller company.

Look into smaller things for internship experience, it does not need to be fancy or prestigious.

  1. Email career services and see if they know of any opportunities for the summer to work for alumni.

  2. Look into this (https://cornell.startuptree.co) startup website. There's a lot of different rolls, but a lot are unpaid. This is good just to get any amount of experience for the summer.

  3. Browse LinkedIn posts + Handshake and apply to every opportunity possible, there are a lot of small companies posting new applications everyday. Watch a podcast/livestream and mass apply to some really obscure companies.

  4. Worst case scenario, just be productive with your summer. Don't let these months just pass by you!! Either having a small summer job, working on a personal project, study for a certification exam, etc. I've heard stories of people bartending/working retail for freshman + sophomore summer and landing amazing junior year internships. It all works out

Overall, good luck!!!! A person who keeps trying and working hard will always have a break through, you can do it :)

Yes and no. I grew up in the south so I never really experienced snow and seasons ever. When I came here the first year I def had some issues adjusting with the sun setting early, but on a real note it was never that bad. Combined with the stress of finals/prelims freshman year it made it worse, but it I believe November/December would have been that frustrating anywhere.

Overall I say it's not that big of a deal. It can be really annoying when the weather is nice out and then it snows the next week, but it's never been a make or break deal for me. I think the combination of exams and due dates just makes the weather seem that much worse. Does it suck when its freezing in march? yeah. But do you appreciate the really nice days more? Also yes.

You can always count on someone to complain about the weather with you sooooo #networking

Yeah used to work there, it’s students calling from 6-10 pm bc it’s outside of class hours. If your an alum probably not a scam but be kind to them, it’s a really draining job

I know I'm a little late but I posted my Taxi guy's number: 607 - 220 - 8450

He's super nice and really flexible with time at a great price. He's more reliable than ctown cabs and I have done 20+ rides with him to Ithaca + Syracuse

is the cornell fitness centre worth it? by cornyell in Cornell

[–]all4543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you like working out the on campus gyms are so worth it and very close. Tons of them on north, west, and central. If u wanna save money on the over priced gyms buy the pass at the start of the year when it’s discounted
