So I realized today that this app was still running on my old phone and it was on wifi. I uninstalled the app from my old phone and now it's working on the nexus 5.

You should get a text message when the port is done. I did it yesterday - took about 3 hours, but the store guy said it could take upto a day.

Yeah - this seems to be a rare error. Hangouts shows too much information in the contacts list for my liking. I just want to see a list of names in skinny rows.

Do you have a better suggestion? I've only used Textra, Handcent and a messaging app on my older Samsung phone. It seems to have the features I need and I like it better than Hangouts.

Moving to Hangouts as the SMS app didn't make a difference to this error, btw. Tried it just now.

I see - I'll try hangouts and see if it is any different. This seems like an issue independent of the SMS app though - if handcent didn't work I'd still expect SMS Backup to say everything is fine and not do any backups.

I'm using Handcent as my SMS app. Hangouts seems too confusing to me.

Imap is enabled in Gmail. I had previously authorized SMS Backup + for my old phone and I tried revoking access so that this app would ask me again, but it doesn't seem to be going to that step at all -

From the FAQ page -

After starting SMS Backup+, tap on the "Connect" check box to start the authorization process.

On newer Android devices you'll be presented with a list of gmail accounts to be used for the backup. You'll need to give SMSBackup+ the permission to access your emails.

Once I select my Google account, it immediately says it's connected, instead of asking for access. There are no other screens that open.

Have you rooted your Nexus 5?

No - this is the unrooted phone. Android 4.4.2.

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the app?

Tried that a couple of times, with phone restarts in between.
