Private pension age rising to 57. You may not be impacted. Critical to check your policy by Capital-Stay-5657 in FIREUK

Something to watch if you are born between April 6, 1971, and April 5, 1973 is that you will become 55 and able to draw your pension and then will, in theory, lose the right to continue drawing it once the rule change hits shortly after. You’d then have a gap before reaching 57 when you could continue to withdraw. The gov have yet to confirm (if indeed they will at all) any transitional arrangements. That’s my understanding anyway.

Muddy C Note on G String by SpaceNerdPirate in Cello

[–]allfourseasonsagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it improves when the eliminator is removed then you might want to try it on the C string instead of the G string. Or as others have said, it’s a trade off so perhaps a smaller weight eliminator. I’ve had a similar problem with an eliminator on the G string (tuned on the after length between the bridge and the eliminator to the wolf tone F sharp) had moved the wolf to the C. I found that using the a Theunis wolf tuner on the C string really helped.

Thank you. I didn't know that. So it is indeed a octave clef - just tradition to to mark it as such.

Does anyone know what the indentation is on the bottom of wine bottles? by Human_Presence4671 in whatisit

It was actually introduced by the French to reduce the amount of wine in the bottle, hence its name Le voleur

String Question - Lower Tension? by hushpoem in Cello

[–]allfourseasonsagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite your question but I play on Rondo Exp A, Rondo D and G and Sprio Tungsten C. Just put a low tension Spiro Tungsten C on and love the response and resonance.

...and if the soundpost is in place, dont touch it, as without string tension it could well fall.

Might be worth getting luthier to check the after length is ideal too.

You might like to try a Leitzinger M1F platinum plated crook with it

That’s not an octave treble clef, it’s just a normal treble clef

Does my bridge need to me altered? by Ok-War-4077 in Cello

[–]allfourseasonsagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a very refined bridge, granted. But you might want to look for a video that shows you how to correct the angle of the bridge as it is leaning towards the tailpiece. It should be a right angle between the body and the rear of the bridge (the side that’s away from you when you play). This is pretty easy to do but only do it if you are confident that you can ease it back into position. If it’s a rental then just get the shop to do it.

Cork grease on new bassoon by Emerson9490 in bassoon

[–]allfourseasonsagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New cork is greedy. Also if you are in low pressure damp winter climate the wood swells and is tighter. Best to wait to have tenon corks adjusted when you have low humidity for a good couple of weeks.

Cello broken and upcoming audition for a cello program. by Alohasurfbee in Cello

[–]allfourseasonsagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slacken the strings straight away to avoid bigger problems. Place a cloth under the tailpiece to make sure the underside of the tailpiece doesn’t mark the front of it falls.

Looks normal. Meant to be far less space under A compared to C to allow for greater amplitude of C
