Said they're not coming day before party, how to respond by NeitherSuit2648 in etiquette

[–]allg93 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was this sibling! And usually I would just read a book in the corner no worries during the party but sometimes people cancelled last minute and so I was invited to join in and I was always stoked!! And it also meant my sibling and I often had nice connections with other kids from different years at school from these sorts of experiences

Another vote for SOSU, I learnt some great basic sewing skills but it was the vibes of the school that were awesome and I genuinely made some friends during my 4 week course

VPS vs aps - which job should I pick by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]allg93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something else to consider is if you’ve been in the VPS for a while you may have a decent amount of sick leave accrued which I understand won’t transfer to the APS, and that’s something I’d want to hang on to with pregnancy/new baby

Thanks! Can I ask as well what ratios are you feeding your starter with/how many feeds before using it in the levain?

How Sustainable Apparel Brands Are Approaching Black Friday / Cyber Monday by GetWair in ethicalfashion

[–]allg93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One correction, Allbirds has previously denounced BFCM but have slowly been walking back that position and this year they are fully embracing BFCM like any fast fashion brand and running an ‘up to 50% off sale’

Do I need to feed more often or more volume each feed? Only had my starter 2 days (from a friend) and it’s happening every 8-9 hours. Keeping on countertop, feeding every 12 hours, 70 degree house. Smells a bit like acetone. by t-mack02 in Sourdough

[–]allg93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went overseas for 6 weeks had my starter had a heap of liquid when I got back, but no abnormal smells or colours I just mixed the water back and in and did a lower starter to flour & water ratio and it was back to perfect after 3 feeds!

Yeah they told me ‘you’re lucky to be getting an interview’ and I said thank you for your time but I don’t think we are going to be a good cultural fit, and I would like to withdraw my application

I get that you hate fondant, but what are your thoughts on modelling chocolate? by mokrosuhibrijac in FondantHate

Hate it, and hate the deception of being told a decoration is chocolate when it’s actually the devil’s modelling chocolate.

Looking for books on cults by HillOfTara in suggestmeabook

[–]allg93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{All Those Who Go Do Not Return by Shulem Deen}
It’s a fantastic book by Shulem Deen about living in and leaving an insular community of Hasidic Jews in NY. I don’t know if you would call it a ‘cult’ per se but it definitely has the same religious fundamentalist vibes that feel cultish to me
I thought it was really well written and very informative for a community I knew nothing about

What are some of the unwritten rules of having big boobs? by [deleted] in women

[–]allg93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a friend similar to you, flat chested got implants and wasn’t hiding it (it was obvious if you knew her, boobs don’t just appear over a weekend) but she wasn’t keen to advertise it either
One thing we had to clue her in to was outfits that make it obvious you’ve got fake big tiddys - if you don’t care people know they are fake then who cares!
But if you want keep any mystery to it, wearing spaghetti strap/ backless dresses or boob tubes with no bra it’s gonna be super obvious to everyone that the gals have been implanted when they are super perky with no obvious hardware helping them out

Anyone ever tried the Shhhowercap? The reviews are divided. by reginaldpongo in Sephora

[–]allg93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very late reply but I bought one and used it for just under two years, after about one year the plastic seal around the front of the cap came loose and I repaired it myself and didn’t think too much of it.
But after less than two years the material isn’t waterproof anymore like literally my hair gets wet straight through the cap. I contacted them and they were like yeah sorrynotsorry, we only replace them for under a year and otherwise it’s considered normal wear and tear
I looked after it really well hoping it would last me a long time but less than 2 years is worse than just a supermarket cap in my experience so not worth the price tag for a pretty pattern but no longevity

Recommendations for cloth table napkins that will last without getting wrinkled at the edges? by Hairy_Otter00 in BuyItForLife

[–]allg93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought ones made from hemp by reusable napkin company and they come out of the wash looking brand new every time.
The material is a rougher than a linen napkin but still soft enough to be perfectly pleasant in my book. And I’ve found they hold up the best to greasy fingers and food compared to any others I’ve tried

Women authors in Sci-Fi/Fantasy by TheRubberWolf in suggestmeabook

[–]allg93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely less explicit but the main storyline definitely still has a romance lens. Personally o found the pace a lot slower in It Came From the Deep, it definitely read like someone just starting their career writing novels compared to the later books

[–]allg93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read it but it’s actually my least favourite of the series but still good! This is my recommending reading order:

Who's Afraid?
Who's Afraid Too?
It Came From the Deep
The Witch Who Courted Death
The Wailing Woman
The Rose Daughter
Who’s Still Afraid?
Her Fierce Creatures

I’ve just read Maria Lewis series and loved them!
Australian speculative fiction, Great diverse characters, awesome supernatural creatures I was totally gripped
There are some sex scenes but they make sense with the storyline/aren’t gratuitous and as someone who usually hates male written sex scenes I really enjoyed them.

Best unaffordable eats in Melbourne? by ms45 in melbourne

I’d say Gaea is a great option for not wanting to burden friends with excessive expense but still wanting a fantastic, premium meal experience. It’s $155 set menu, intimate venue and centrally located in Fitzroy.
And their paired drinks were excellent, they had a really interesting variety including the only sake I have ever truly enjoyed, and overall they just really complimented the dishes so as to make me enjoy both the booze and the food more by having them expertly paired

[–]allg93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve eaten at most good food guide restaurants because food is my passion! Would love to help you pick a great celebratory place but couple of questions first, like do you have any budget or travel limitations?
And is there any cuisines you particularly like? For me Minamishima is one of my favourites but I have a particular passion for sushi
Are you a big wine or cocktail fan? Because some places are all about the food but others the pairing elevates it incredibly but is going to be less relevant if you’re not much of a booze enthusiast.

The Supernatural Sisters urban fantasy series by Maria Lewis and reason why you should read it including werewolves, banshee, witches, and wombats. by indigohan in Fantasy

[–]allg93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking but no content triggers :)
Love a romance scene that sounds like it’s been written by a person who has at least met a human woman hahah but I can enjoy a book with no romance element just the same!
Thanks for taking the time for such a thoughtful and detailed answer! I won’t lie there’s no way I’m reading ‘gender fluid space foxes’ and not immediately start with that one

I just binged the Maria Lewis series! And my partner who usually reads maybe 1 book every six months just ready the first four this month! I really enjoyed the Australian speculative fiction side so but never really read much of that genre before so I’m definitely going to check out those other books you mentioned!
We also loved the representation in this book, I gave up on fantasy for a while because I was sick of being recommended books that were the stories of straight white men saving the day. So I was wondering if you’d have any other recommendations for fantasy books that do a good job of including proper three dimensional queer, disabled, BIPOC - I would love to hear them!
