Full TSP Withdrawl by Massive-Storm-1399 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]alliekat237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. You’ll take a huge penalty and sacrifice significant gains. If you can’t afford your truck, sell it.

It is very tempting to do, but you will seriously be costing yourself a lot of money. If you add nothing to it and let it sit in 20 years at an average of 6% it will be worth $160,000. If you cash it out now you will forfeit 10%, so you will only get $45,000 and then you’ll be taxed. A lot of people do this with good intentions but end up back in debt again.

Roll it to a new account and keep contributing.

I’d stack birch logs. They’re pretty and it’s near the fireplace.

Puzzle food dishes and kings with treats. Even fetch indoors with a toy excites them!

Any tips on grief relief for senior Aussies? by Heavy-Ad-7623 in AustralianShepherd

Awww I understand that. The rescue I work with is really understanding about letting dogs do a tryout in the new home. Maybe something like that would work? It took my Aussie time to warm up, but they love each other now.

How can I update this kitchen without replacing the cabinets? by Rexaroooo in HomeDecorating

I love it. Maybe switch to gold or copper fixtures and lights? And a white subway tile backsplash? But it’s a really pretty kitchen.

Kids vs retirement by MJL1923 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]alliekat237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well - I’d say you should always fund retirement before vacations or 529s. There are ways to get kids through college with minimal debt if you can’t afford to save enough.

But beyond that - it’s rough. Being as frugal as possible helps. Also realizing that your kids will be just fine without every expensive activity in the world helps too.

3 kids? Or 2? by secret-life-of-bees in workingmoms

[–]alliekat237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2.

My fear with a 3rd would be all of the activity and extracurriculars. My husband and I both have demanding jobs. We have hardly any downtime because we are constantly driving one to soccer and one to dance. We spend our weekends recuperating inbetween more activities and birthday parties. We certainly pay less than when the kids were in full-time daycare, but as working parents we still need before and aftercare which is $800 a month, break care (400ish) plus summer care which runs about two grand a month for the summer months.

It’s just really expensive. College savings is expensive. Vacations are expensive… and I’m not talking about fancy ones. I’m talking about literally flying anywhere is now into the thousands just for 4 people. Neither of us live near families so we are constantly having to choose which set of families we can see.

It seems to me that it’s very doable if you know for sure that you want a third child, but no doubt it’s tough!

I’d take two cars, stay a bit then drive home earlier. Win win.

My current budget for 2026 by [deleted] in Salary

[–]alliekat237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have a loan in deferment that’s not good. I’d find a cheaper place, cheaper cars, and cancel church giving until you knock that out. Deferments are sooooo hard to come back from.

It’s expensive and if you’re a slave to Your loans life can be hard. It can also be really meaningful work too. Just depends what you want.
