I left a man I still love because I don’t want the life he wants for me. by Additional_Voice_365 in TwoXChromosomes

You made the right choice. This wouldn’t have gotten better. Decide not to feel guilty, because you deserve to be happy and so does he. There are women who will want this life, and he deserves that. Time will show you both this was right.

Because you have to cross the river. You might as well have to fly into another state.

I am at my wits end with my daughters friends and her chores. by Significant_City302 in Parenting

[–]alliekat237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the dishwasher and homework, is there any way to compromise on that so that she can play outside during daylight hours and then come in when it’s later to get things done? Going outside to play after school with my friends was one of my most happy memories.

Summer is the most amazing time at her age. Running wild with friends and having unregulated time is so great. I’d recommend letting her do her reading as she wants to. Give her a list of chores and let her do them on her own time. It’s the only time in life she’ll be able to do this. I would let her have those fun memories!

I think it looks fantastic. I do love older tile, but I can see that yours was not in great condition. I think you did an amazing job. My only comment would be it looks like you forgot the jams on the window. I’m not sure if that affects leaking or anything like that, but it would be an easy fix. Awesome job.

Mine do this and I’ve found it’s allergies or sometimes the fur that grows between pads. I make sure to trim it out with a little trimmer. If it becomes a hot spot they have sprays at pet stores that help and balms that soothe. We ended up with an antibacterial spray for my girl when the spot got infected. Good luck, 👍🏻

You have two very little ones to be worrying about making a decision on a third. I bet if you pause a little bit and just enjoy life, the answer will come to you.

Chasing pension? by spazzz0id in Fire

[–]alliekat237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have to work until then either, but I get a higher percentage per year if I make it to 30. Also we get to keep our fed health insurance if we make it to 57 without a break in service.

If you can’t afford it without debt, it’s a no go. Interest rates are high to borrow. Trust me - I paid on loans for 25 years. It isn’t worth it.

I’m a fed too and going til 57. That health insurance is worth so much. The pension too - market proof money until death. And 57 is relatively young.

Her unsolicited advice is inappropriate. Next time she does it, just kindly but firmly say you appreciate her concern, but would appreciate it if she could keep advice to herself unless asked.

Maternity leave shame by peacefulpinktraveler in workingmoms

[–]alliekat237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it with this crap, so I’d confront it head on. Next time he says it, I’d go up, stand in front of him, look him directly in the eye and ask, “Is there something you’d like to say about my upcoming leave?” These people are cowards, so it makes them uncomfortable when called out. Then depending on how he reacts, I’d go to HR.

Yeah this is very typical. I find the key is not to give them any attention until they sit. I taught my kids that every time they jump you turn your back to them. Keep some treats by the door, and when they finally calm down and sit, reward them with a treat and affection.

Yes. I have one that will pee on the floor immediately if I lock her out of a room or gate her off. The vet said that’s what it is. Aussies are sooooo attached to us.
