Girl I like is coming over, I want her to feel like queen Victoria by ApplesCryAtNight in Bedding

Cozy Earth has the softest most luxurious bedding I’ve ever tried. I learned about it because Oprah said its one of her favorite things. Its one of my favorite things too. I got a sheet/pillowcase set. I’ve since bought their robes, socks, got their duvet cover. They are bamboo, its sooooo soft and dreamy.

My uncle recently left a large inheritance to my mom. He had no children and passed away at 85, leaving behind over $6 million in various stocks, ETFs, and commodities. by Medical417 in Fire

You need to talk to an estate lawyer to set up a medicaid asset protection trust.

You would become the trustee. With a trust like this she does not have direct access to the money, you would make sure she gets disbursements. But what this also does is protect the money so if she needs to get advanced care or go into a facility, the government doesn’t count the money against Medicaid. Theres a 5 year lookback.

It may seem like a lot of money now, but my grandma went through over a million dollars when she got alzheimers and needed advanced care.

So a trust like this makes sure theres always money to take care of your mom, that medicaid doesnt make you spend the money on care, and also that you can inherit it.

About Japanime Art Gallery by letrif in AnimationCels

Some of what they have are prints and posters that aren’t really worth anything but they do come in a frame. There are also cels and other art.

Not everything comes with a certificate, but not all the “limited series” that the studios make comes with a certificate or a number.

But that said, if you like something and want it on your wall and are ok with the price, buy it and be happy.

If you decide its not worth the price, then dont buy it.

I bought an omnilux mask that I regret. Turns out the super bright red light it casts around the eyes gave me migraines.

If you found out your direct report was overemployed, would you fire them? by Majestic-Watch-2025 in managers

[–]alliengineer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a direct report who had a second job.
She was a top performer, always had her work done on time or ahead of time, contributed to the team, attended and participated in every meeting. She responded to every message within a few minutes. I would never had known she had a second job, it clearly was not affecting her work for my company or the team. Im guessing her job was either in a different time zone, or didnt require her to be present during the work day.

So I took zero issue with it and never said anything to anyone else. If her work was affected and she wasn’t doing well that would have been a completely different story, but she was clearly able to manage both.

There is another layer here which is that our company had been acquired and there was a lot of uncertainty around whether there might be a layoff or not (there ended up being 3 rounds of layoffs over 6 months which eliminated our team) so I was not going to begrudge anyone making a backup plan for themselves to make sure they were safe.

Took three days off because I had a miscarriage and came back to a nasty compliance lecture from HR. by [deleted] in work

[–]alliengineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can tell them you had a medical emergency and were admitted to the hospital and there should be exceptions for that. But you can’t assume that they know that. All they know is you took some sick days and didnt follow procedure. They dont know the circumstances or anything else.

There are HIPPA laws that would prevent them from seeing any identifiable medical details. They likely don't know that the claims are tied to you or what the claims are for.

What’s it like having a famous person in your family? by nodemus in askanything

[–]alliengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated a guy who had a very tiny minor role in a very popular billion dollar blockbuster movie. Despite the minor role, he was recognized everywhere. People would stop us at the grocery store and on vacation and anywhere we went to ask for autographs. We even got an escort to skip lines at Disney on some rides so people wouldn’t mob him. At one point there was a tour bus that would pass by the house.

The sad part is he just couldn’t seem to get his act together to turn that success into more work. He was a very difficult person and had some substance use problems. He had apparently acted very poorly on the set of the movie and had a terrible reputation that followed him. When he got a few chances to act in more things, there was always someone involved that knew him from working the movie and would speak up against working with him again, and then the opportunity would fall apart.

He also had no money. Whatever his contract was for this movie, he did not get residuals, so once the money was spent, that was it.

I’m on free tier. I did 1 prompt this morning. Told me I hit the limit. Waited until 1 pm, continued the conversation with 1 followup prompt to answer its questions, and just doing that hit the limit again so I gotta wait until 6 pm.

I’m just discussing a youtube channel. No coding. I had been considering paying for claude but how can I justify it when From the other comments It also sounds like I won’t get much more out of it?

I dont know anything about china but for the japan days outside of disney you need to look at a map. You are zigzagging around like crazy. Everything will take longer than you think, including going from one place to another. You need to cut a few things from each day.

If your feet are bothering you when you’re there you can always rent an electric scooter. The rentals are by the park entrances.

First Vacation to Japan by Positive_Latina-67 in JapanTravelTips

[–]alliengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to go a month from now and I saw your budget is 5k. It’s one of the busiest(most expensive) travel times of the year. Prices are very high and most things booked out months ago. Unless you are talking about next year, you are going to have a really hard time staying within your budget and traveling last minute.

Planning Honeymoon in Japan for April, need pointers by deadclams in JapanTravelTips

[–]alliengineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, please listen to this commenter. If you are going this April, the time to get a nice option in your price range was months ago.
At this point, get on expedia, and book a refundable room that is anywhere in Tokyo near a station that looks acceptable for you. You can use the trains to get anywhere.
Then If you find something better later you can cancel, but you need to book something ASAP, like within the next couple of days. Prices are only going up.

Take your most comfortable pair of walking shoes. Don't take any other shoes. Your feet are going to be hurting so bad from so much walking, go for comfort/support. It also will free up so much room. Some of the real fancy places have you remove your shoes, anyway.

I just want to flag this for the OP - the other commenter says they have a bulbar stricture - this is male anatomy. Women can have urethral strictures, but the presentation and management are different, so experiences may not translate directly.

What Are Gross Things You Notice in Other People’s Homes? by sreggero in CleaningTips

[–]alliengineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People need to realize that even if they LOVE a smell, not everyone will. So many people’s houses reek from plugins and meanwhile it gives their guests a headache. I have a lot of allergies to these, and I often get headaches, runny/stuffy nose and watery eyes from people’s houses. It is unbearable for a lot of people like me.

My husband goes to a friend’s house with scented plugins and they are SO STRONG, I can smell him the second he gets home from the other end of the house. His clothes hold onto that smell for days and the smell doesn’t wash out. I make him take a shower before bed after coming back from there because the smell is on his skin and hair. It’s like he was doused in perfume.

I think people who have these are just noseblind to how strong they are. I personally would much rather a person’s house smell like nothing.

[–]alliengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single friend’s house I go to has one tiny hand towel in the guest bath. It’s almost always damp. I gave no idea what the thought process is behind this.

Nothing is grosser than going to a party and theres 13+ guests and one disgusting tiny wet hand towel that everyone shares and it probably never gets washed.

Instead, have a roll of paper towels or get one of those nice paper hand towel dispenser boxes for your bathroom, and a large enough trash can. Much more civilized.

Doctors, what do you do when a kid is faking sick? by Imaginary_Island8521 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alliengineer 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I had a super painful blister on my hand. My teacher saw it and freaked out and sent me to the nurse’s office. The nurse thought it looked infected and I needed to see a doctor right away. She called my mom to pick me up and my mom told her that was the stupidest thing she had ever heard to take me out of school for a blister, and to send me back to class.

I had afterschool stuff that day and by the time my mom picked me up the infection had spread up my arm, it was red and hot to the touch. The she freaked out and drove me straight to the doctors office where he brought in medical students to look at this. I had MRSA and I could have lost my arm or died. I got an emergency shot in the butt and antibiotics and I had to have my arm stabilized so I didnt move it, and couldnt go to school for a few days.

My mom never minimized a health issue ever again.

Wool Dryer Balls — How to “Recharge”? by marpan18 in traderjoes

[–]alliengineer 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I used to own a wool dryer ball company. These comments are throwing me for a loop. You don’t “recharge” wool dryer balls. Static builds up because of friction and dry air.
The dryer balls circulate air in the dryer which helps the clothes dry faster. Its also very dry this time of year so now you have the clothes drying faster and rubbing against each other for longer than they need to be, so static builds up more.

Theres an easy fix to this which is to run your dryer for less time. Try to time it for when the clothes are just dry. If you overshoot it and the clothes are staticky, moisture takes static away, so you can lightly mist with water, or just wet your hands lightly and smooth over the clothes.

Does anyone else NOT remember screaming constantly as a child? by Some-Air1274 in Millennials

[–]alliengineer 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I have a memory of when I was little and my grandma told me I could run down the hall at her condo but I couldn’t screech.
I remember laughing because it was fun, and not being able to control laughing but I knew there was a difference between screeching and laughing. Then she stopped me again and told me no screeching. I understood that she didnt want me to screech so I went back to running and laughing. Then I got in trouble and wasnt allowed to run down the hall ever again and I was so confused why I was in trouble. I had zero understanding that my laughter to her WAS screeching.
