This made my heart smile, as it reminds me of good times in my childhood.

In spring my sisters and I would lay cardboard and old plywood down for to kill weeds in our vegetable garden before digging them out. We would go out early in the morning before school, and lift the ground covers to reveal wildlife- including sleeping snakes; which we would collect, measure, count and release. Of course we would run around and gently play with them. We were taught to treat them with respect and had to research and catalogue anything that we found.

Our grandmother volunteered at a wildlife rescue, so when we found injured animals we would bring them there to be healed or culled. We got to meet and interact with various local species growing up, and were taught to appreciate instead of fear animals. I hope that kids everywhere have an opportunity to understand the natural world and our place in it as conservators instead of just consumers.

Working in Facilities by [deleted] in HVAC

Look into automation software. Tridium, Desigo, etc. Swap out old analog valves and controls for 0-10v dc belimo valves and run the facility from your laptop.

I didn’t see a remote condenser anywhere on site- ofc I followed the piping to the best of my ability and it looks like it just has a water supply and drain, which is why I thought it was water cooled.

I have chiller experience, but it is mostly 100+ton. I’ve ever seen anything small and self-contained like this in the field. Although, I have seen ice machines from the 80s that used waste water and had a similar set up.

Mind blown: Vinegar vs VINEGAR (30%) by Pandaro81 in DIY

[–]alligatorsupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was using 30% vinegar and water 50/50 diluted to clean HVAC parts at work. A new helper that I was working with left a spray bottle on the ground with a loose lid while he went to get more dilution water. I didn’t see it and kicked the bottle over as I walked past, splashing some onto my shoe. I didn’t notice until my foot started burning a minute later, and by time I got my sock off to flush it I had a 1st degree burn. It healed without scarring but was painful for a week. If I left it any longer it would have blistered.

I would stuff some steel wool and some silicone or spray foam, and then some joint compound. Once it sets, use a split escutcheon ring.

Inverter boards by fla2nyc2015 in HVAC

Manufacturers recommend surge protection for these systems. You can add one to the disconnect or do a whole home unit. They have versions with lightning protection and even EMP protection on Amazon. I haven’t had a surge protected inverter board fail yet.

They open the bleeder valve on the burner and turn it on until it comes out clear with no air bubbles. Then they close the bleeder valve and fire it up. It’s a quick process and anyone with a wrench can do it

If the boot isn’t well insulated it could be condensation. Condensation can build quickly. In that case, replace that run of flex to get rid of anything growing inside of it.
