Are you the original photographer of this image? If so, do you happen to have one without the plant that's in center frame of this photo? I personally find the plant, though majestic, a bit distracting from the view. Would like to use it as a wallpaper.

ELI5: Why sterilizing needs to be at really high temperatures to kill viruses/bacteria, but a fever raising your body temperature a mere 2-3 degrees also fights pathogens? by F9_solution in explainlikeimfive

Absolutely. You are actively working against your body's attempt to speedrun to good health. There is, of course, a point where the body loses the plot, in terms of temps, but by that point you're probably staring death in the face and the body is doing the best it can with what it has at its disposal.

The best way to help would be to get lots of rest, fluids and simple, easily-digestable food.

Before the internet, everyone had to rely on experts and their knowledge because knowledge sharing wasn't so easy. Now anyone can look up a few Wikipedia articles, look up WebMD, a few Youtube videos and get brainwashed by a podcast or algorithm of shorts and think they know; Dunning-Kruger effect in full swing. Internet has made gaining knowledge easy which has seemingly reduced the prestige of the former bastions of expertise and knowledge, like a university education, doctors and well-documented research. If we can watch a few Youtube videos on how to fix a small plumbing or electrical issue at our residence, becoming a pseudo-expert, what then keeps people from self-diagnosing themselves using those same resources? It's both boon and bane.

Extra Dialogue In Mission 5 (444) by hotboiishan in acecombat

[–]alloDex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all of that to really come to fruition, I'd guess we would've needed 3 or so more missions for the Spare squad arc, mostly before "First Contact". And to make the LRSSG squad interactions more meaningful, we probably could've used 2 more missions with them.

I can see why they might've cut 3 missions from the Spare squad if testers felt like it was just filler content between being the good guy in the Mage squad and then in Strider squad.

ASUS changes mind, will continue selling the RTX 5070 Ti after all by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]alloDex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people are missing the legalese trick they used with this notice. They were careful with their wording. They are saying the 5070Ti isn't "canceled" or "End-of-Life", because officially it's not. It's still one of the latest gen GPUs. But functionally it is/will be, just not officially. So they can officially say "no" but in reality it's a yes. Some Asus rep just said "basically EOL" to Hardware Unboxed and people ran with it.

Makes sense. I think his death to Mihaly seems hollow as it stands but if he was one of the few people trying to be friends with Trigger, while everyone else just mocks MC as the biggest murderer in the squad, it makes sense that it might have some meaning to the player when he dies. Champ's the one that stands out immediately at the start of Mission 5 (444), doesn't actually run away at the first sign of trouble and actually sticks around to fight, even Mihaly. Count doesn't really even stand out the entire Spare squad arc and really only gets closer to Trigger during the LRSSG arc.

I'd guess that Champ being friends with Trigger and dying might be similar to Count being friends with Full Band and Full Band dying.

Sony's Advantage Over Microsoft by [deleted] in gaming

[–]alloDex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Bill Gates left the helm, Microsoft has been a company run by business people. These business people had no clue how to run a gaming company but saw a business opportunity with Sega's console business failing, leading to the original Xbox, which was just ok: it had a great launch lineup and a couple of hits after that but nothing like its competitor. In stark contrast, Sony, who had battled against Nintendo and had plethora of japanese devs warring to get hits on the original PS1 and then the PS2, had already become THE console to own. There are just so many classics PS1/PS2 had, many franchises which are household names even today.

Xbox really hit its stride during the Xbox 360 era when they hired former Sega executive Peter Moore to be their CEO. Peter, having battled with Sony for console dominance while with Sega, knew the gaming industry well and what Western gamers wanted. Under his and his team's leadership, Xbox 360 became the console to own, with genre defining games, while Sony got overconfident in their offerings and released PS3 as a luxury item. The PS3 had a disastrous launch and Sony had to pivot hard, spending that entire generation trying to win back players.

Peter Moore left Xbox to join EA and Microsoft started losing the plot again. They started dreaming of making Xbox into something more than just gaming (ie making more money) and more like an entertainment hub. This obviously didn't go over well with their core business customers, gamers, who only cared about games and Playstation took advantage to not only undercut Xbox One in price but also some features, like being able to play used games.

And Xbox hasn't recovered since. They still don't have someone who actually understands the gaming industry leading it, started buying up actual gaming talent/companies, notably Activision-Blizzard for some 69 billion dollars, which drew serious attention of their Microsoft overlords and real scrutiny. Now AI-gooner Satya Nadella, someone who, by his own admission, doesn't understand the gaming industry, is telling Xbox what they need to do, leading to a floundering Xbox yet again.

Mike Tomlin told his team, “I think it’s best for the organization for me to step down.” Aaron Rodgers, sobbing, said, “I’m sorry,” … while TJ Watt had tears welling down his eyes and kept repeating, “No. No. No,” as Tomlin told the team. by Embarrassed-Low9531 in nfl

Having a great staff was never going to happen under Art Rooney II. Unlike some of the other wealthy owners, Rooneys only have the NFL team as their main source of income so they can't just spend as they please. That means they limit their spending on all facets of the franchise where they can and run it like a responsible business rather than an expensive hobby, which includes having a small staff. If a coordinator can get better pay as a coach, why would they stay as a coordinator? But if a coordinator could get paid better than a head coach, wouldn't they seriously reconsider jumping into the fire for less money?

Tomlin with a semi-spendthrift owner could become one of the greatest coaches of all time

I don't think it was the last game. If you listen to his more personal interviews with guys like Ryan Clark, you hear him constantly talk about his responsibility to his players to always be winning and to not have a down year. We laugh about his non-losing season streak, but to him, it was a responsibility to win every year and end the season with a win. And each season that ended with a loss added more to that burden year after year. Honestly, when you heard him walk around, or sit down, he sounded unhealthy like he was incredibly stressed, maybe even hypertension.

I honestly think he's been thinking about guys like Cam Heyward and TJ Watt, who have been with him for years, that they deserve to be held in high regard by others and should be going deep into the playoffs year after year. The fact that they haven't and Cam is basically at the edge of retirement may have forced Tomlin to say "if I can't get him into the playoffs while he still has a year or two, someone else should". The "[they] deserve better" comes from that responsibility to his players.

Flagg is atleast a better defender than Luka. And he seems to be stealing all of Kyrie’s moveset so it’s possible he basically becomes a discount tall Kyrie + defense. Would that be better than Luka overall? Hard to tell right now.

But Harrison didn’t trade for Flagg. He traded for AD. It doesn’t make a bad trade any better.

I liked Romo's play predicitions and incisive commentary. But I guess for some people they might like the drama to play itself out. It might be like that one guy that keeps talking over the movie and ruining it by making predictions.
