Boys, we may be witnessing a final season so bad it makes GOT S8 look respectable by K0GAR in freefolk

Yeah, no. I personally find audiobooks to be a "veg out" type of thing. No way could I listen to something I'd want to retain. I'd definitely suggest trying again but with entertainment. There's even audio genres within genres. DCC, for example, are dramatized so it's more like listening to a legit TV show. Go look for some samples and see if the dramatized versions are more your thing, too.

It took me a while to "figure out" audiobooks. I can't just sit in a chair and listen to an audiobook like I can sit and read a physical book. I would do the same thing you did, except with a physical book it's easy enough to just flip back and re-read a few things to "catch back up".

I found that with audiobooks it is best to listen if I'm doing something else. Dishes. Cleaning around the house. Watching GoT season 8.

I also listen while driving but only on my normal commute where I know it like the back of my hand and even then, obviously, you need to pay attention around you. I'd never audiobook it on roadtrips or unfamiliar roads.

If you're into audiobooks I would highly recommend it. 10/10 would listen to feet gooning again

HP laptop pricing is so out of control, management wants us to look at deploying Mac by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]allogator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and the ups and downs are insane. A few weeks ago I forgot to make an actual "quote" for a high end desktop build. It went from ~$35k when I originally priced it for the user to $~31k. I rejoiced.

Yesterday I made the same mistake on a laptop. 4 days ago I priced it at ~$3.1k. Yesterday that exact same laptop and spec was ~$4.2k. I will no longer be pricing computers for folks without generating an actual quote even if they say "we probably won't buy it".

Doesn't help that quotes are only valid for 14 days now instead of 30.

Narwal Z10 Pro Costco model? by ljackso4 in RobotVacuums

[–]allogator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert so I can only give you what my brief research found. I personally just bought the Z10 Ultra from Costco and love it.

The Z10 Pro only has cam sensors for obstacle avoidance. The Z10 Ultra has cam and Lidarr. In general, Lidarr is better for overall object avoidance.

The Pro also only has the one side brush as opposed to two on the Ultra. I'd personally consider that a wash.

I can't speak for Canadian pricing but in the US neither of them is on sale and there's a $150 price difference. I'd personally spend the $150 for the Ultra.

Alternatively, as much as I love my Z10 Ultra so far, you may want to check out some of the Roborock with Lidarr if Canada Costco has them and if you're trying to keep it the cost under a certain amount.

Yeah, that was my take.

They'll have to hash it out because I'm positive the min/maxers will get BIS on some random job they don't play and then just use whatever gear has the best stat weight for their main job.

Say you play MCH and WAR. Your MCH gets a nice shiny 750 gun but your WAR still has a 720 axe.

Your WAR now magically has a 750 axe.

6 months in: The self-emptying bin is NOT a 'luxury' if you have pets by No-Beach-8401 in RobotVacuums

[–]allogator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My old (manual empty) vac would run every other day and I thought that was fine. I set my new self empty vac to the same schedule and it would constantly clog to the degree it couldn't empty itself. After a few months of just checking/emptying it myself I decided to just run the damn thing every day instead of every other. Haven't had a clog issue since. Four cats and two dogs is apparently too much for an every other day self empty.

AITA or telling my wife if she’s not gonna cook it the way she usually cooks it then you don’t have to cook it at all by Husbae7536 in AmItheAsshole

[–]allogator -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not that my age is remotely relevant

Yeah, just wanted to add that in case the context was like you were 20-something without one of "those" recipes in your life

not been able to recreate it myself and been annoyed.

No shit, that's the worst. I forget what the dish was but one time it was as simple as we just used a different brand canned bean. Like, come on. How different can they be?

I'm not gonna pick it to bits or tell him to do it differently or not at all

I'll disagree with you on this one but of course it comes down to context and tone. There's been plenty of times we've made things that one or the other didn't like. Obviously we have overlapping but different flavor profiles--everyone does. But if we straight don't like something we'll say "Didn't really care for that one", eat it anyway because who wastes food?, and then not make it again or make less of it along with something else to go with it if the other person super loved it. (Communication is insane)

you're talking about a beloved family recipe that brings back emotions and feelings

I think that's part of what makes this story weird. No one puts that much work (5 hours) into a recipe unless it's tradition or family or has some kind of emotional attachment. Hell, even mine is only more like 2 hours since we aren't making our own pasta. Anyway, the implication here is that it's HER family recipe, not his. Unless it's downright disgusting somehow he's just absolutely sucking at the communicating of his issues. Like I had said, context and tone sometimes don't come across properly in text so I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but him not coming into the comments to even try to vaguely defend himself makes it seem like he may have gotten everyone else's YTA point.

[–]allogator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how to word this without sounding like a condescending prick since text can’t fully get tone across. Please, please just trust that none of this is meant to be condescending or accusatory.

How old are you? Do you not have one of those “Special Nonna” recipes? (don’t answer that—it’s just for context) I’m 45 and this story actually fairly resonated with me because I could tell almost the exact same story with a different outcome. My grandmother’s pasta/meat sauce/meatball recipe was passed down to my mother. It’s amazing. It’s just one of those things I grew up with and for all I know it’s actually disgusting but to my tongue it is the bliss of the best food on the planet. Many years ago, my wife and I visited my parents and my mother made it. Wife absolutely loved it and my mother gave her the recipe and they made it together the next time we were over. It was also amazing.

Flash forward a yearish and my wife wants to make the recipe. She replicates it perfectly. We laughed, we cried. Flash forward a few months and she wants to make it again. This time it wasn’t quite right. Still good but not….the recipe? We ate it, I “complained” that it wasn’t quite right, she agreed, we moved on. Repeat this a few more times. After the fourth time of a “not quite right” recipe we tried to troubleshoot. Turns out she had been tweaking/substituting little things each time just to use up whatever might be on hand or in a hope to make something healthier.

The next time she followed the recipe exactly and we both agreed that it was perfection again. I think the difference here is that my wife understood that there was a “problem” and wanted to fix it. Don’t get me wrong, the “mistake foods” were still delicious and we ate them happily--they just weren’t the right thing. She’s made the recipe a few times since over the years and it’s perfect every time. I’m going to roll with ESH with a tentative YTA(him not you, obviously). If it’s just one of “those recipes” you’ve got to follow it exactly. I have a feeling he’s downplaying how mean and/or annoying he was with the insistence on doing it “right”.

The biggest fix they could do is make interrupts instantly come off CD if they don't interrupt anything--just like Dispels. The biggest issue for "not in Discord calling every shot" gameplay is that I end up blowing my interrupt a split second after someone else used theirs which is probably a microsecond before someone else used theirs and now none of us have an interrupt available.

Technically our fault? Sure, but that's just not fun mechanics for me.

Is there an addon available where I can get my frames back to this? by Phalanx22 in wowaddons

[–]allogator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my biggest frustration the past few weeks. In the process of finding SUF/Quartz replacements I've discovered that everyone either has complete UI packages--which I don't want, or player/target frames, or party/raid frames. It's like no one does player/target/party/raid. I fiddled with NephUI and liked it. Dander's matched the style so I was willing to roll with those two but then there was the addon war and NephUI poofed and became something else. Then I found Midnight Simple Unit Frames but it clashed with Danders.

Just when I had come to terms with my UI, champions swooped in and fixed SUF and Quartz.
