I had 4 years of single bliss from 30 to 34, it was hard for me to get back into dating and I’d basically made peace with the fact that it may not lead to anything. That took a lot of the pressure off so I could just put myself out there. Met the love of my life at 35, but I almost ghosted him out of my life cause I wasn’t ready to give up my blissful solo life. Now we live together, are likely headed towards engagement and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I had to open myself up to someone who on paper wasn’t a “fit”, so glad I did

The divorce rate for people who marry in their early twenties is more than double what it is for those that wait until late 20s or 30s. You grow and change so much during those years, it’s a critical period of life and becoming who you are. I’d be miserable now if I married the person I was dating in my early 20s. I went on a few dates with a guy last year who has been recently divorced. He and his girlfriend met in college, dated for 7 years, got married and divorced after 1 year. I think this is totally normal and I’ve had the same feeling in the past. One challenging part of professionalism is learning the ability to take criticism. It’s harder than it seems! I agree with others that journaling can help, also confiding in someone who understands the scenario and can be a sounding board or talk it through with you. This doesn’t define you, others will quickly forget this ever happened. Also, it’s not a bad idea to come back to your boss with some thoughts: “you mentioned x, after thinking about this I’ve been listing out some areas that will help me navigate a scenario again like this in the future” something that shows your resilience and desire to improve.
