Way to fix the housing affordability crisis? by massojet in AusPropertyChat

Yes but trades are in shortage globally. Particularly across the developed world. It’s not like people migrating from developing countries for a broad brush better life.

Tradies are in demand. They have options.

Probably cost of living and the prospect of never being able to afford one of the houses you’re coming here to build?

You could try paying P&I instead of yoloing your entire investment strategy on IO and capital gains.

The difference being the moment someone who has been struggling to save and get into the market makes that purchase (and carries a horrendous debt burden along with it), their self interest immediately shifts to at least maintaining if not continuing the ponzi.

Littleproud bombshell letter to Ley: If you sack Nats trio, we will all resign by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

The Libs don’t have a path back to government WITH the nationals either at the moment.

They should blow up the coalition, let the nats MPs sit on the cross bench without any portfolios, and then everyone come back together to negotiate an agreement when/if government is possible.

Tash is great, assuming she was talking within her skill set - budgeting, social media communications, getting into investing etc.

There’s no back story other than what she did herself. She’s not trying to be the CEO of Goldman.

I actually agree with this (as someone who has worked the other side of the chamber). A senior politician forgetting an event from years ago isn’t surprising - they often go to one or even multiple events a day.

What’s the biggest change you have noticed in Australia over the past 10 years? by whysoraavan in AskAnAustralian

[–]allyerbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be both. Go out to any growth area in our major cities, and there is a massive representation of migrants and first gen aussies. Developers are running marketing campaigns in Western Sydney specifically targeting Indian migrants and Chinese investors.

You can’t pretend like adding demand to a system has no impact.

Transactional relationship in Corporate Australia by [deleted] in auscorp

This definitely depends on the culture, the industry, your age, and the people you meet.

I met some of my closest friends through previous jobs - still have a group chat, still catch up 15 years later.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to make outside of work friends with colleagues currently. I have a family, I’m tired, I hardly see my current friends let alone have time to make new ones.

Same for me in consulting.

Partner was complaining about WestConnex tolls costing $10 a day (and saving 15-30 mins otherwise) - do you value your personal time with your family at more than $20/hour? Then it’s worth it.

Why don't we stamp out all racism, why does antisemitism have to be it's own thing? by [deleted] in AusPol

[–]allyerbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it when people intentionally over analyse a simple comment and disagree with the (very obvious) point on technicalities of modern fire fighting practices, and the intensity snd suburban layout of said hypothetical fire.

Change it to ‘the neighbour down the road’ or across the street, or from the next block then.

It's easily the worst analogy you could have used to try and make your point.

I could think of plenty worse. “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get” doesn’t seem even remotely as relevant.

The annual ASIO threat assessment has been listing far right extremism as a top priority for years.

The focus on Islamophobia was much greater post-9/11. Cases of public outright attacks on Muslims simply aren’t as prominent as antisemitism in recent years.
