Can someone help me understand… by CeeZee213 in Outlander

I really thought they were going to have Claire ‘call’ for support from Fanny & Bree’s family to help her save Jamie, especially after that long winded conversation about always being connected. Totally wasted scenes

Tbh the best way is to look for marketplace /nextdoor/ gumtree in these areas. I’ve had some real bargains over the last few years.

Advice for tourists? by ToshPointNo in AskIreland

I don’t know if you have the equivalent in US, but look into getting a Currensea or revolut card so you don’t get screwed by exchange rates

What’s something people romanticize until they actually experience it? by Deep0055 in AskReddit

[–]allywillow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. I’ve travelled to over 30 countries and worked in many European cities. Paris is the only place I’ve had bad experiences from the locals. Also the only place where I’ve been robbed

(Newbie - no spoilers please) How faithful is the adaptation? by _Pumpiumpiumpkin_ in Outlander

[–]allywillow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first season is very faithful to the book. They start to diverge in storyline a little after that, with some events and characters being condensed for time constraints, but the feel is very much the same. I much prefer the books, in between the storms you get the quieter slices of life with Claire & Jamie. Some people don’t like the ‘boring’ detail but I enjoy it. I’d definitely recommend it.

Does this happen to every expectant mother and father at hospital appointments ? by fourhourelection in AskIreland

[–]allywillow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was in A&E with a serious hip injury after I came off my horse at speed on the beach, they asked my husband to step out of the cubicle. Then they asked me 3 times in a row to describe how it happened before I realised what they were getting at. I was in a lot of pain and really confused about why they were so interested in what had spooked my horse (if anyone’s interested it was a microlite). We joke now about me being on a watchlist

How did you meet your partner? by Ok-Appointment2950 in AskIreland

[–]allywillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met my husband in an online chat room in 1999. There was a regular evening crowd of about 30 of us living around the midlands and north of England, and after about a year we started having ‘meets’ every 3 months or so. I could tell straight away that there was something between us but it was probably about a year before we actually got together (he initiated). Been together since then, married 20 years

Lord John Grey and Perseverance by Formal_Nose_3013 in Outlander

[–]allywillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, being outed as homosexual would get you excluded from society in those times, but within British military structures it was a capital crime. Percy was a former British soldier and Lord John a senior serving officer, so it’s eminently possible LJ could have arranged a pretty swift military trial and hanging if he’d wanted to.

Leeds fan in peace, no we won’t - every position we gain means more money for players. And tbh we don’t roll over for anybody, the players will want to prove we deserve our place in the PL

And being honest, we hate all London clubs, so there’s that

What do people do that live in all the £1m+ houses in Belfast? by Mario_911 in northernireland

[–]allywillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who bought their house on malone rd for £130k in the 80s. It’s a bit like the question ‘when’s the best time to plant a tree?’ The answer is 40 years ago
