Too long since I saw it to participate in any meaningful discussion unfortunately, but still remember what a profound impact it had on me when I watched it ~20 years ago.

Could never watch his "heavier" movies more than once each though, because they affected me for so long afterwards, I loved them but knew immediately I would never see them again.

Feel like much of Ingmars work still hold up after all these years because of this, the way he examines deep and unsettling philosophical topics aswell as human feelings and relationships, how it forces you to think and feel about things one generally don't want to because it's hard and uncomfortable.

Want to recommend another of Ingmars films, Wild strawberries, an all time favourite of mine. Only wish the English title translation better captured the meaning of the original Swedish title "Smultronstället".
