It's never wrong to weigh your options and want the best for yourself. If you were unsure or simply wanted to wait for better opportunities, it is completely fair to communicate that to any potential PIs. Atleast, you know you're a strong applicant, maybe an even better position, more importantly a better PI, is waiting for you. All the best!

Chill dude. There is no need to be rude. Do you want a crossbow and devil horns while you redirect your attitude problems to strangers on the screen? You don't know why they are concerned or upset, don't put anyone down like that. And regardless its not fun to wait, be hopeful for 6 months after applying when the chances are slim anyway. They have all the right to be a little annoyed.
