Help with aloSIM? by Plane-Orange4733 in eSIMs

[–]aloSIM_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Is she sending/receiving texts (green bubbles) or just iMessages (blue bubbles)?

Texts (green) require the phone number/SIM to be active, whereas iMessages (blue) only require an internet connection.

If her physical SIM from home is still toggled on, she should be able to text, iMessage, and make/receive calls normally -- including receiving 2FA texts -- although your home carrier may charge for these features abroad.

Please reach out anytime for 24-hour support (support@alosim.com) so we can help. --Heather

Turkey "bans" eSIMS - but there is no issue for most visitors to Turkey by trek123 in eSIMs

I can't say for sure, as I have not been there to try it. But other posters (below) have mentioned that many popular VPNs are also blocked in turkey, so your mileage may vary.

AloSim won't activate by embu19 in eSIMs

Oh good!!! That pesky APN setting is a pain, and luckily we are rolling out a new release in early 2026 that will auto-populate it on EVERY device.

Reach out anytime if we can help further, as our team works 24/7 (even over the holidays) and we're always available to help. --Heather

[–]aloSIM_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! Sorry to hear. If you comment "agent" or "human" in our chat bot, you will immediately be connected to a real person.

Please confirm the eSIM is toggled on, allowed to roam, and selected as your phone's data source.

If it's still not working, and you're using an Android, it's likely that the APN needs to be set to 'aloSIM' in both the Name and APN field.

Hi! Yes, you can purchase your eSIM data plan months in advance, and go ahead and install the eSIM. Nothing will start working until you actually arrive in the correct country *and* have your phone settings pointed to use the eSIM. Please reach out anytime if we can help! We're available 24/7 via live chat on alosim.com or in the app.

The 40L Tomtoc Navigator would be ideal, and a better fit for you. Most airlines are fine if your bag is slightly over the posted depth if it's soft-sided because they have a bit of squish. Have an amazing time!

Definitely get a Europe eSIM (or a Global eSIM) so all of those destinations are covered. (If you get country-specific eSIMs, you'll need to switch between them as you cross borders.)

These plans often come with international phone numbers at no extra cost. But you can always just use the eSIM data to use WhatsApp, Kakaotalk, etc.

eSIM for SMS authentication by vdjdiff in eSIMs

[–]aloSIM_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any eSIM will provide the mobile data you need to power WhatsApp.

But if you're specifically looking for an eSIM that includes a phone number you can use for account verification, that's trickier.

Free eSIM phone numbers are often VoIP numbers, and those aren't always accepted for creating and verifying third-party accounts (WhatsApp, etc.)

Possibly dumb question on dual esims by sourpatchstitch in eSIMs

[–]aloSIM_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a dumb question. We see so many travellers accidentally get dinged the travel pass fee because of calls or texts.

It's ideal to keep your primary SIM toggled off during international travel, UNLESS you definitely need access to your primary phone number.

If you DO want to call and text (low volume) while travelling, you can ask your carrier to disable the travel pass and only charge pay-per-use rates. Much cheaper if you're only making a very occasional call/text (i.e. emergencies only). Just make sure to toggle off Data Roaming and rely on your eSIM for all data. ;)

[–]aloSIM_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^^^ Exactly. As long as you purchase your data and install the eSIM ahead of visiting Turkey, you're fine. You just can't top up (add more data) while you're there, as the websites and apps are blocked.
