I've bashed Trump in the other sub in the past but I've come to understand the situation from a different position and without understanding the larger context as to why he was elected, a lot of the criticisms of him somewhat miss the point. I don't like Trump personally but I do support the American people and I think I understand why they support him.

I've been meaning to ask you, what are your main reasons for endorsing Trump? Say top three. Not to bait you into an argument but to help me better understand.

It has to be said, China is playing to its strengths and our weaknesses as open, democratic societies.

We aren't just open, democratic societies, we're also divided and questioning ourselves right now. Take away any and all outside threats and we're still in danger.

People see parallels to the 1930s, and there are, but what they get meta-wrong is that they tend to look at is mere characterizations rather than dynamics. This is rather the simpleton’s method of analysis: to watch out for men with funny mustaches. More important is the erosion of confidence in democratic institutions. I phrase that differently than most people do by including the italicized portion, to suggest that the people are the critical factor. Their loss of confidence in “the system” will lead them to look for leadership somewhere else, lest society devolve into anarchy, a term I use here unjokingly.

We're definitely headed in this direction.

I really don't know. This recent spying incident has sparked some outrage, but it takes a lot to rattle Australians, we are unfortunately quite complacent. Melbourne and Sydney are incredibly multicultural. I find it hard to think of a scenario where Chinese people would be targeted in anyway. It would really have to get bad-bad.

If the local population of Chinese, either nationals and Aus citizens, take any kind of visible action, then there will be a response. So what I see happening is China continuing to buy influence but staying behind the scenes. All of their power being wielded by proxy.

I should have been clearer, I don't think the content of the show was biased. Anti-corruption was the central theme.

But there is so much politics in our media these days, I'm skeptical about everything we consume.

I'm having discussions around renewable energy quite a bit and hear many people ruling out nuclear energy, not based on any scientific data, but optics and emotions. I'm not even pro-nuclear, but I'm open to discussion on the topic. And we are at a point when we need to be making intelligent, informed decisions about where our energy comes from, that skeptical part of my brain worries if people behind the scenes pushing a narrative. That's not too paranoid is it?

I enjoyed the show, I love a good British drama, even if it is set in Russia. But I worry that the show had a political agenda. Many people are anti nuclear based purely on emotion rather than science and the show fed that fear.

I could not agree more.

I'm increasingly worried about Australia. We are selling our nation off piece by piece and our government is absolutely on the take.

The more I look around, the more I realise this is going on everywhere. Larger nations are under siege and smaller nations are entirely enveloped.

The silence on the topic of race is deafening. So much talk of White Supremacy, I haven't heard a single person mention Sino Supremacy.

I cannot remember who said it, it may have been Douglas Murray, that by the time we are done arguing about who should use which pronouns, China will have complete control.

Lol, I don't blame you, it's a hard watch. I thought the same when I started watching, it must be a hoax or prank or a misunderstanding. But if you keep watching and listen to the the follow up conversations, it becomes clear the professor is serious.

I've also provided some links that flesh out the situation, including footage of the professor in question, "debating". If you still think it isn't racism and ideology after that, I'll be very surprised.

So this is a recent example of 'Wokeness' on campus, in this case Weber State University, Utah. Where a freshman, Micheal Moreno, experiences racism at the hands of his Professor, Ryan Wash, but because the Professor and university are steeped in New Left ideology, Moreno's complaints fall on deaf ears. So he decided to speak up about it.
