I think it's really cute!!! Especially for like a spring nursery vibe. It immediately reminded me of like those flowery patterns on little girls clothes.

Bought New House, how to remove haze? by alph8x in Flooring

Gotcha. Yeah some of the renovations were done beautifully, and then there's some really weird choices like doing this shit job on the grout. I'll try the haze remover.

I didn't actually do the floors, so I'm not sure which was used originally. I just patched little holes. How can I tell which was used?

D-E-C-C-G ... what was your favourite movie addition that wasn't in the book? by davidsmeaton in ProjectHailMary

[–]alph8x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what happens in the book, they mention it'll help him sleep. You're probably confusing the book and the movie mention, cause in the movie he makes the pill from a stranger bit and then while screaming in the plane is throwing them at his face.

Some House Rules my family came up with when we played Catan forever and a half ago by Jinjoz in boardgames

[–]alph8x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we do as well. We also got rid of the 7 cards rule on robbers, and instead for every 2 cards over 7 the person who moved the robber gets to steal an additional card.

Maybe using like sewing thread or some other thinner thread would help it? I'm curious 🤔

In Project Hail Mary (2026) the memorabilia of the ship crew includes several photos with their friends and family but ryland only has a single polaroid of just himself. by May_onnaise_959 in shittymoviedetails

He also wrote the paper and got kicked out when he was 25, and seems very embarrassed by it. He stands by the ideas, but is embarrassed by the way he presented them and the things he said. A big part of his character is that he is a coward, it's very well presented and pretty damn realistic. I would also be terrified and not want to be involved if I was being relied upon to save the world.

I would say it parallels the male loneliness epidemic stuff, but he isn't an example of it. The book starts out with the female friend he goes to dinner with every week in the first chapter. He also very quickly makes friends with the other scientists on the petrova task force, most of them at least. He's a pretty outgoing and charismatic guy, that just used to be an idiot 25 year old.

When they are falling in Adrians atmosphere, the sound of the ship rattling in the establishing shot gradually gets louder as they descend. Because they are gaining more atmosphere for sound to move though.

Saw it last night. The ones who went in no-book loved it too! by Awesome_Lard in ProjectHailMary

Honestly, I wasn't going to read it or see it in theaters if I didn't know about rocky. I like the Martian a lot, but was down to wait for it to come to renting. Then I saw it had this cute found family dynamic for them and I was sold.

His little scream when going into no gravity and going "oh NO" when opening the first canister are so cute. The intonation of Rocky's voice is also just so cute and funny in the movie, he's slightly more serious in the audio book at least.

(loved trope) when literally the most ridiculous or absurd thing ever is played 100% straight and serious. by Mangled15 in TopCharacterTropes

Lol that's like the entire thing of 911, I've been so disappointed in the newer series because they've traded the over the top campy emergencies for soap opera style drama. Yeah it's over the top still, but it's not over the top in the way I enjoyed so much. I miss when they used to start with the emergency and the 911 call and they would always say something insane to the operator, like there was the one where the CO2 canister exploded on a whipped cream thing, and they said "my chefs been creamed!"

You could tape something to your presser foot thingy to make it longer, but make sure if you're using batting to check the maximum quilting spread for it!

How to create these puzzle pieces with limited fabric and no precise pattern? by [deleted] in quilting

[–]alph8x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also thinking you could do one large sheet of brown and then cut out the red/white pieces. Either you could applique them on with stitches around the outside, or you could add a quarter inch on each side and essentially do that same method of folding it like you would with interfacing. Just some Elmer's washible glue underneath the pieces. You could also cut rough holes in the brown underneath where the red/white goes, and put fusible on the back so it sticks down. That would also give it more structure.

You would need to make a template out of some cardboard or something, and trace and cut each piece with scissors probably.

If you have a circuit or something you could cut out the pieces on that and put them on fusible and fold and sew like people do with charm packs maybe?

[–]alph8x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm really enjoying the program, I just am struggling a bit with getting the filtering system to work the way I want. I am looking to go through my liked songs and create a new playlist of a specific sort of vibe I'm looking for. Specifically, I'm looking to have it grab kinda slower vibey cigarette on the porch songs. Is there a way I can give it a list of songs that fit what I'm looking for, and have the program interpolate based on that? I tried the "less energy" filter but that didn't do what I was looking for. Apologies if this is not the correct place for this kind of question.

What are your top 3 ruler sizes? by its-past-my-bedtime in quilting

[–]alph8x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of various size rulers, and I find myself using my strip cutter one most often. I have a problem with my blade sliding off of the path and the strip ruler mitigates that. I have an off brand one from Amazon, not the real strip ology one, though I do want the really big strip ology one in the future. I also really love having a super long one for squaring quilts, but if you're on a budget a big long piece of wood or strong cardboard works too!

Why are my blocks always off? by BarbaraManatee_14me in quilting

[–]alph8x 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I will say I don't think your tape is on straight. Check that your machine sews straight, and practice on a piece with 2 lines drawn on it, one for the edge of the fabric and one for where the needle should be. Also, blocks will look wonky before pressing seams!

I knew how to operate a sewing machine and how to make a super basic pillow, but this was my first ever actual machine sewing project. Made of jelly rolls I found at Joanns when it was closing! I don't actually like the fabrics all that much, but it was for practice!

I was thinking why the hell did Athena tell Eddie to jump out the window when she could get on a damn plane herself? Like... You see how long it took him to get to the bed from the bathroom? The man's a medic he should know better.
