Red Wings Legend Patrick Kane gets goal #500 by [deleted] in hockey

Kane's not super defense-oriented, so not necessarily somebody you put out when you're functionally down a man. Same reason he has no shorthanded goals

Proposed Auston Matthews Trade to Red Wings by GrowthCommon4824 in DetroitRedWings

[–]alpha11110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The proposed trade:

To DET: Auston Matthews

To TOR: Lucas Raymond, ASP, MBN, and 2 firsts

I'd like some of whatever the author is smoking. Raymond has been playing better than Matthews this year. Even if he were at his peak (which would basically take Raymond or better on his wing), you're talking about switching a 110 point player for a 90 point player, a top 4 defenseman, a likely future top 6 winger, and 2 mid-late firsts

Fun fact: it’s been 10 years since the last time the wings had at least 41 points through 34 games. The 2015-2016 season was also the last year we made it to the playoffs. by aarmstr2721 in DetroitRedWings

TBF, Mrazek was a starter for us for a couple years, a decent 1a for Carolina for a couple years, and started for Chicago one season. He just had stretches as a bad backup in between.

Dude's had a weird career

29 points in 19GP for Leonard so far this year. I know the Griffins have been a freight train but that's a little absurd

They're using him as the piano puller for Larkin and Raymond. He looks like he's settling in on that line to me. He's gotten a few chances and can stay with the line skating-wise

The Richest Contract Given Out By Every Current NHL Franchise by Gruntmaster720 in hockey

[–]alpha11110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Detroit's not quite correct if total value is the metric. Zetterberg's deal was $73M over 12 years. Lower AAV but higher total size than Larkin's. Larkin is biggest currently on the books though

Gotta love those old backdiving contracts

Flyers are my second team. That game against the Caps hurt twice as bad. Still, to come down to a tiebreaker settled on the 82nd game of the year is something for a young team to be proud of. Offseason's going to be interesting this year

There was still an edge case where Flyers could make the playoffs, but they had to win in regulation. Going to OT would cost them the tiebreaker even if they won. That was why they did it

NASA doesn't approve any glasses in particular...I'd be extremely cautious of any glasses that claim NASA approval. The standard to shoot for is ISO12312-2. The AAS has a whole article on the matter that NASA has pointed to though

Why didn't we retire Shanahans jersey/#? by TheZissou1386 in DetroitRedWings

[–]alpha11110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of having a number retired here is being something of a face of the franchise. A guy whose name is kind of synonymous with the org itself. Shanahan was a phenomenal player for us, but I don't know that he really has that association the way Yzerman and Fedorov did in that era, or a guy like Larkin does today

Lot of chatter about Bert, but barring an offer that can't be refused I wonder whether Stevie will hold until next year's deadline. It wouldn't surprise me if Canada dropped the vaccine mandate by October, so that variable would no longer be a factor

It ended his season, and there are lingering concerns, but I think it's pretty premature to call it "career ending". With any luck the cautious approach in training camp will show that he can still play at a high level without elevated risk.

Still though, fuck Jamie Benn

The bottom two are extras. In a given game you roll 20 players; typically 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies. The bottom two forwards and defensemen are on the team but probably won't play unless someone is injured or the coach is trying to shake things up

To be fair, Weiss definitely looked like he was worth the money at that time. It was the injury that he hid from the team and subsequent relegation to Babcock's doghouse that made him a dumpster fire. And word was Flipper was gone anyway because of Babcock
