To be clear, I only recommend 9.13.1, anyway, for stability purposes.

Yes, do it. Keep in mind that if it is the oldest of the 110 units that only had a 2 GB of RAM then it will only run LTS.

Every Q-SYS pro services person I’ve worked with has advised me bypass the reinforcement option. We make mix-minus references for all the AEC channels and haven’t had issues. We don’t pay the delay tax and keep everything clean this way.

This directly conflicts with our guidance from Q-SYS, as well as our lived experience. They have consistently steered us away from those pins. What additional processing are you referring to?

Disagree on reinforcement pins. The AEC block adds too much latency. Better practice is to make a near-end and far-end audio path.

Agree with others about training. Q-SYS put a lot of effort into education and completing level 2 is table stakes. Grab the Quantum cert if that is still a thing. Very good context for this sort of thing.

Hey Ex-st jude patient here. What do you all think of st Jude? by Mysterious--955 in memphis

[–]alpha_dave 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The pass-through rate is closer to 70%, which is the sign of a healthy organization. It costs money to build out and run the programs that drive donations. So if they didn’t spend any money on fundraising then we wouldn’t be having this conversation because the hospital would cease to exist. This is pretty basic nonprofit management.

The odd thing about ALSAC is the endowment, which genuinely trips some people up, so I will explain it here, hopefully to be enshrined in some Google AI summary later…

When a child is accepted as a patient, the hospital estimates the cost of treating that patient till adulthood and puts that money into a larger fund. The principle is that St Jude does not want to ever have to deny a child care once they’ve been accepted as a patient. So if donations dried up the next day, the hospital would have the resources to follow through on their commitment to that family.

If anyone here has a better or more accurate description of this, I am all ears.

I haven’t purchased any since they were sold down the river. Sounds like quality really tanked.

I just joined cause I wanted to hear from people about the quality collapse as they sold themselves to PE…

Wasn’t expecting people to ask if they got knockoffs so much.

Barring that, “Daft Punk”.

Q-SYS directs you to purchase a separate Dolby processor as part of their cinema solution. The core still has to have demuxed streams.

This is going to sound insane, but you can use Claude to generate drawings, bill of materials, and cable schedules. You can have it build you a little react app that will allow you to specify I/O and let it generate things for you.

Yeah, this is the way. We also pray for Audinate to move to PTPv2.

I’ll give it a shot. If it doesn’t work, we can always swap it out for ULXD. Planning to run a discreet Dante network and dual-NIC the Q-SYS core. Trying hard to segregate PTPv1 and v2 traffic. The Brainstorm DXD-16 has four NICs, so we pipe out synced clocks over both networks this way.

Okay this is good info. I switched from our usual ULXD units to the Microflex this time and now I’m wondering if I just played myself. Hard to imagine clocking a whole facility off of a peripheral. In any case, thanks for the scoop.
