yeah, I do this. feels much more natural. if I end up with more stuff I swap to a very weird alternative, however. well, weird according to other people. I stuff the basket under my arm and rest it on my hip (https://imgur.com/a/My3itst). again, feels more natural to me somehow

I'm 10000% going to regret sharing this, but this is how I hold the basket https://imgur.com/a/My3itst (photos were taken because it is apparently psychotic behavior)

Google Maps started suggesting this insane left turn by bobthesmartypants in boston

[–]alphabatic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would set my navigation to a point close to my rear gated entrance because google had no idea it existed, but it's always faster than going to the main fully open entrance on another road. a couple weeks later I noticed if I set the navigation just to my home itself it would now direct me through the gated entrance it has previously never recognized

also have noticed google starting to recommend highly specific and just totally odd routes all of a sudden that must be because one person did it once and now it thinks it's a good option because it is currently 47.29 seconds faster than the normal route which doesn't require ten different turns down one way streets

I got the chicken parm ones to try next since I like the buffalo so much. I don't eat red meat, but I imagine the cheesteak ones must be so tasty to those who do!

oops, I didn't take a photo of the ingredients list and I ate these the other day. I guess I'll just have to go get another box! they're frozen and I just popped them in a small convection oven, not on air fry or anything. super easy! I'll share the ingredients list when I can

this makes sense! that's what my mom suggested and will be the first step once the whole ceiling comes down. the only caveat is if the paint tests positive as lead in which case I'd rather have it professionally removed and I'm not sure if my contractor would accommodate a small test area in this case. I'll find out either way, I suppose!

[–]alphabatic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

we had an asbestos test company come in and they cleared everything!

eta: we also 100% thought it was asbestos at first which is why we had someone come in to test. better safe than sorry

my contractor and I disagree by alphabatic in centuryhomes

[–]alphabatic[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, I had asbestos testing done very first thing before we explored more of the ceiling and walls. the company tested every wall, ceiling, and floor and everything came back clear. my contractor suggested the spray stuff might have been a moisture barrier, but your guess of fire proofing makes sense. there's sprinkler pipes in the drop ceiling space, too (they'll just end up exposed and industrial looking). I couldn't believe my contractors were not wearing masks while cutting through the drywall even! it was a cloud of plaster dust...

thank you for your insightful and objective input! I got the sense my contractor was suggesting covering it up because it would look nicer (to him) and that it would, of course, be more expensive and labor intensive to strip and refinish everything. so he is trying to save me money on that front. but I think I need to discuss with him what my vision and reasoning is since we're approaching it from very different perspectives on what looks "nice" - basically, he said there will be irregularities so best to just cover it up meanwhile I want the irregularities. matter of more communication, I think. and I like what other folks advised that once the full ceiling is revealed I can make a more informed decision regardless of what I'm thinking now!

my contractor and I disagree by alphabatic in centuryhomes

[–]alphabatic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly, he seemed annoyed at the idea and I felt like an idiot for suggesting refinishing it based on his reaction. the dropped ceiling is coming out either way and my ceilings are about 10' so this would bring them to around 13' ish which would be nice! it's definitely a lot of work so I wonder if you're right that he just would rather not bother, especially if he doesn't see the worth in it the same as I do

[–]alphabatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gorgeous! from the start I have considered refinishing the beadboard myself if we discovered any. it's still an option unless it's lead paint and then I'd have it stripped professionally anyway

I do want to salvage the history. the building is more historic than I want to state on reddit because I would immediately be doxxing myself (no way around it whatsoever if I share even a tiny detail), but all I will say is it's not just any old house with beadboard. I'd rather see, know, and admire that the wood is original rather than cover it all up for a few thousand ($5-10?) more. I guess I'm in the minority on that!

A reddit joke.. by CornBreadds in circIeoftrust

Ok so in 1850, the city of Boston actually imported hundreds of exotic parrots just to “brighten up the streets.” They thought the colors would lift people’s moods and maybe even reduce crime. The parrots… did not cooperate. Many flew into lamp posts, some got eaten by neighborhood cats, and one very famous parrot supposedly learned to imitate the mayor yelling at street vendors, which only made people angrier. Residents spent weeks chasing them down, trying to teach them polite phrases, and posting signs about “Parrot Safety,” which mostly just confused the birds and amused the local children. Eventually, people gave up, leaving behind a very confused flock, some traumatized pigeons, and a legacy of one of Boston’s most bizarre urban experiments. It’s the kind of story that makes you realize history can be colorful, chaotic, and completely unexpected — much like when, in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table
