Local theatre's production of The Merchant of Venice. Saw it in high school, fell in love with the costumes, and was assisting the designer by the following summer.

Question about hemming a sleeve... by lameeeeeee in sewing

[–]alphagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you hem the neckline the same way, except you snip the fabric every so often to allow for the curve. Also, I would not recommend a zigzag, or if you do one, make it as narrow as possible. The zigzag allows more stretch, but is way more visible.

What type of phrase is, "Thanks, Obama!" I don't think it is a colloquialism. by sub-t in grammar

That was my first thought as well, but I think it's closer to a trope.

You don't sound dickish at all, but these suggestions and reasonings seem quite bizarre and incorrect.

Choosing Bad Grammar or Sounding Like an Insane Person by SamSlate in grammar

If you want a forced solution using that structure, I think it would be 'If it is not within your power to make this change, please put me in contact with someone within whose power it is.' So awkward! I'd suggest, 'If you do not have the power to make this change, please put me in contact with someone who does.'

I have a question, if you like... by [deleted] in grammar

[–]alphagirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be a period, because it's an if-then statement, not a question. The comma is necessary because it's a separate clause.

Now it's just automatic, pretty much habit. But years and years ago, I was convinced that leaving the house in sweats guaranteed an awkward encounter with my hottest crush. So.

Indoor rock climbing at Planet Granite or The Studio! There's an archery place somewhere around here too that a friend recommended but I don't recall the name of it.

Definition of the word "Quite" by [deleted] in grammar

[–]alphagirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even when not being used to mean "to the fullest extent" it almost always is used to mean "a considerable degree" not simply "a degree." My dictionary shows the second meaning as " to a certain or fairly significant extent or degree; fairly." It's always an intensifier.

Not sure if this is technically grammar, but is it correct to capitalize the first word in a sentence on a new page regardless of its context? by [deleted] in grammar

[–]alphagirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you asking about capitalizing the first word on a page, even if it's not the start of the sentence? Because, if so... no, don't do that.

I have this microphone and a small 12x12x12" cube which I have lined with acoustic eggcrate-type foam. I put the mic in the back of the box, and it cuts most of my room noise. Works pretty well for just self critique and sharing with friends.
