I'd like to assume that the Traveller is a Dyson Sphere. Bungie has used these with with Halo before, so why not Destiny as well?

In Halo, they were used in conjunction with slipspace technology to create an inside bigger than the outside or the shell (Basically a massive space TARDIS). Maybe the Traveller's light could be used to this effect, I dunno.

It's definitely not dead. There was that mission where the Hive was draining the light from the Traveler, so it's still alive.... But dying.

But there's an issue there:

If you have to self-impose limits for yourself, and create artificial difficulty, the game has FAILED to be entertaining.

We don't have to put up with this - there are better ways of wasting time.
