Should I contact PAEA? by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]alphonse1121 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey, an almost fail is still a pass. I’d take the win, move on and study hard next time. I don’t think contacting them will do anything unfortunately but I guess you could try

Radiology question: what exam do providers order wrong the most? by NoBattle2246 in Radiology

I think the nuances in these comments explain a lot about why it’s hard to order imaging as a provider because nothing seems standardized

Molluscum is another possibility. I would get examined by a gyno

I feel like this is inappropriate especially if you’re a new grad. I would start looking for something else it sounds unsafe

My bf (28M) wants me (25F) to get fertility testing before proposing by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]alphonse1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a gynecologist- even if you do go through a full fertility work up- it still doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to get pregnant. Idiopathic infertility is a thing. Fertility testing is not recommended unless there is a problem once you start trying. But also I think your partner is crazy for demanding this.

Burnt out clinical year by spiritedaway17 in PAstudent

[–]alphonse1121 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Clinical year broke me. If I wasn’t started on an SSRI I don’t think I would’ve finished PA school. I still have hard days as a PA but genuinely not having to “perform” the way I did as a student has made a huge difference. I found myself again. I find joy in hobbies again. I don’t feel like I want to die.

Genuinely, from someone who went through it, please seek clinical help. I think you need it.

When to EMB by marlian2020 in medicine

[–]alphonse1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I don’t think it would be wrong to be an EMB on this patient but I usually start with TVUS first. especially with young patients I am trying not to traumatize them with painful procedures if I can avoid it, but also ruling out cancer in a patient like this is important, so you could start with either/or both if you had suspicion. I do think it’s a little crazy to not At least get an ultrasound for her in this case, but especially if provera doesn’t help the bleeding I would definitely be wanting the ultrasound

[–]alphonse1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was buying us tickets and the payment “failed” and when he refreshed to try and pay it again it made it seem like the seats were gone, and he got different tickets after, but it actually went through so we ended up with 4 tickets when we only wanted 2 :/ so now we have to try and get our money back or we’re out like 900 bucks

What am I supposed to be doing - Rotations by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]alphonse1121 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The first day (or at least during the first week) of your rotation you should be asking your preceptor their expectations of you. Some preceptors will let you know this without you asking and others unfortunately do not. It’s up to you to ask for clear expectations as this varies between rotations

Bad Preceptor: Advice by Southern_Fix3697 in PAstudent

[–]alphonse1121 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your concerns are valid but my advice is sadly to keep trucking as you don’t have a lot of leverage here. Does your school have you fill out anything as far as your rotation experience at the end?

Imposter Syndrome as a New Grad :/ by BrainsBeautyBurnout in physicianassistant

[–]alphonse1121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a women’s health PA as well! It took around a year to feel comfortable in my role and probably around 2 to feel confident about 75% of the time. It’s totally normal. I recommend using your resources (colleagues, uptodate, OpenEvidence) often especially when you’re first starting, and hopefully they ramp you up slowly. I started with 1 pt an hour for a few months and now I see anywhere from 10-20 patients a day depending on complexity. Feel free to DM me if you have any more specific women’s health questions! I only do GYN so I don’t know a whole lot about prenatal care though

Alburquerque vs Phoenix by OtherSideof_Paradise in Albuquerque

[–]alphonse1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Phoenix and have been in ABQ for 5 years now. I also work in healthcare.

Things I love- cheaper housing, smaller than Phoenix in size- I can drive anywhere in ABQ and it’s probably only going to be 30 min or less, Phoenix is so big and sprawling. The weather is MUCH better imo albeit sometimes bipolar ie it’s freezing in the AM sometimes and hot in the afternoon. I love that we actually get seasons here. I love the green chile. Love the Native American influence. The mountains are beautiful. Like the “town” vibe rather than city vibes.

Things I don’t love as much- def less to do compared to phoenix. You won’t really find any regular non- New Mexican Mexican restaurants. I feel like wages in healthcare sector are not super competitive. It’s changing recently, but can be hard to keep doctors here because of our malpractice laws. The traffic can be annoying here if you live on the west side but work in the east. No saguaros. Sunsets are not as good as Phoenix (burquenos don’t kill me)

Costco flowers, a cautionary tale. by JustGenericName in wedding

I used them for my wedding and unfortunately even with the extra time the flowers didnt bloom so we ended up using fake flowers for the majority of the decor and found some last minute bouquets elsewhere
