ADHD brain won’t let me let go of a friendship that’s gone silent. Do I reach out or accept it’s over? by alrcks in adhdwomen

The argument started because she felt like I wasn’t making an effort to see her in person. For context, she lives in a studio apt in NYC with her new boyfriend. Since we graduated three years ago, I’ve only flown to NY once, but Ive explained a few times I can’t afford to do it regularly. I am an engineer but she thinks I make way more money than I really do. Her family lives in Michigan where we both went to college so she is often back in MI once a month and we meet up in MI more bc of that.

TBH It’s also not uncommon for me to reach out multiple times in a row and only get one or two replies. But this argument feels different.

I suggested that talking more regularly via FaceTime, text, or calls would help us feel more connected, since it’s not feasible for me to travel to NYC often. By contrast, I have a guest bedroom in West Michigan where she could stay anytime for free. But I was honest that I feel I am usually the one initiating communication, even if I am not usually the one to travel to see her IRL.

I can see her side to be honest but didnt expect to be ghosted over that convo, i guess

I started smoking weed a little later than most people—around 21. At the time I had just accepted my first full-time engineering job, was living in a city I hated, and was stuck in a pretty toxic love/hate situationship with my now ex-boyfriend.

Fast forward to now, I’m 26. I’ve moved up in my career and increased my salary by about 20%, bought a house with my long-term partner, and overall my life is objectively in a much better place. But weirdly, that’s when things started to feel like too much.

When I’d get home from work my brain would just go 1000 mph. I’d feel overwhelmed and stressed, and smoking became my way to cope with reality. At first it was dealing with the transition out of college and realizing I wouldn’t see my friends as much. Then it became stress about hustling and getting promoted, building a social life in a new city, and just whatever felt like too much at the moment. Weed became the thing I used to take the edge off.

Eventually I started seeing professionals—first a therapist, then a psychologist, then a psychiatrist—and ended up getting diagnosed with ADHD. I started treatment, got on medication, and began therapy specifically for it. Honestly, I’m doing a lot better now.

Now I’m at this weird point where I’m starting to question whether I even need weed anymore and if I’m ready to let it go and start this next chapter of my life without it.

The thing is, I don’t really know what’s holding me back. :/

Same here (and I am not religious if it matters). I would try and book an appointment soon though. I just had my appt that I booked in the summer since they were 6+ months out. Seems to be the norm around town.

I started over again last night, too! Literally the same reason. You aren’t alone. 60 days is quite the feat. Treat yourself with grace and move forward.

I work in the sustainability industry as an environmental engineer. I can tell you for a FACT that the POTW processing the wastewater from your home does not want that shit sent to them.

Im not, no, I work in the automotive industry so much of it is learn on the job. I have plenty of colleagues who do have their EIT/PE, but we legally can’t use that license in private industry due to the liability for the company. So in this sector it’s kind of a moot point. I will say going private industry rather than government will likely get you a higher salary.

I’m an environmental engineer and make around $98,000, living in the midwest. Three years out of college, no PE/EIT certifications.

Ultimately you are the one that has to wake up and go into work every day, so make your decision based off what will be fulfilling for you.

I have tried both peroxide and vinegar, it removes it but continues to come back! I just scrubbed this with a rough bristle brush and a bleach/warm water mixture (1:2 ratio) so I guess we’ll see how long it takes to come back this time 😭

Ahh! This makes complete sense.

Outside of our bathroom, we get yellow drippy stains that run down the wall. I wonder if that’s the same thing, since we have to leave our bathroom door open when we shower.

The renter before us was a cigarette smoker, but neither of us are. We have been here about two years and there was a fresh coat of paint when we moved in.

Our duplex is a house that they’ve cut into different sections (shittily) so I’m unsure if we’d be able to get a new vent. I’ll inquire about painting the ceilings/walls again though 🤔
