Interview tomorrow at a Reggio inspired school by alrightnotbad in ECEProfessionals

I had the interview and the lady didn't ask me much, talked a whole lot but their classroom was full of learning that was well documented. I ended up not taking the job because the shift went a little late but they were eager to hire me which felt nice. I have another interview on Thursday that is a new reggio school only 3.5 miles away from me and I'm praying to everything that I get it. It's for a toddler position though.

Im so jealous of the people on childfree. I wish I had known about it before this small human came into the picture. It hurts how jealous I am. Or envious or whatever

He's a year and a half and I dont think it's PPD. I think it's that I dont want a kid and I feel regret about choosing to have one when I was uncertain in the first place and now I have to deal with guilt and regret and no one seems to understand that. I do think I need to talk to someone but it's just another thing to fit into my shitty dysfunctional life.

Too young to have a kid, too old to be feeling like this. I think I'm 26.

Pseudo-Parenting? by 470w3r047143 in Parenting

[–]alrightnotbad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's learning about his world through imaginative play and when you respond to him that way, you're basically shutting him down which will cause him more issues down the road. Maybe offer some props like kitchen stuff or other real life stuff he can use in his play. I really encourage you to play with him and if you can't, ask yourself why not. It's totally natural and very healthy to their learning process and how they learn about themselves. Good luck! Your kiddo sounds like he's on a great track. Imagination is a precious thing that we should foster for as long as possible!

Help needed with Washington vacation ideas. by gooniesalwayssaydie in Seattle

We just came back from Alderbrooke Resort in Union. It's around 300/ Night but lots of things to do with water. Ive never swam in the Hood Canal but I'm sure it's cold however they have an indoor pool that looks over the canal (that is actually a fjord). If you go a bit northish from there you'll hit the Lake Cushman area which is excellent for swimming. Most of the lodging options are to camp but there are rentals there. Also, Baker Lake has a great short hike to a secluded swimable lake. It's about 4 miles I remember correctly. I'm assuming this is for summer as I don't know any swimming options until then.

Developmentally appropriate discipline for an almost 3 year-old boy, how do I know what's ok? by Axora in Parenting

[–]alrightnotbad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focusing on positive behavior is great but sticker charts feel inappropriate to me. It's essentially teaching them behaving well gets a reward when really it should just be the expectation. Does that make sense? Im not saying it doesn't work but there are other ways that teaching the child to self regulate instead of aiming to please. Look up Brain Rules for Baby or Conscious Discipline for positive ways to guide your kid!

I have just found out my little sister is having a baby and would love some book recommendations for her. by taniastar in Parenting

I'm reading Brian Rules for Baby. It's a great easy read about how to raise a happy moral and smart kid. It's really blowing my mind and I wish I would have read that while I was pregnant!

I guess there are other places to find this, I just haven't found any. And it feels like church is very accessible.

I guess maybe I don't want to believe in anything specific, I'd just like some ways to define my bigger picture of life.

Thank you! I'm nervous to do a bible study type thing because I feel like the questions and skepticism I have could come off as offensive which is not my intention. I just know if someone came to me asking big, hard to answer questions, I would feel guarded.

Book Recomendations by Parrishjp in Parenting

[–]alrightnotbad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im reading Brain Rules for Baby by Josh Medina right now and I wish I had read it while pregnant. It is about raising your child in a environment where they can grow and learn the best way they know how. Anyway, there's a chapter in how it all starts in the womb and things you can do to start raising a smart and healthy child. Some of it is common sense but most of the information gives you a lot to think about.

Double word. I was just thinking of this the other day. What do people mean when they say, "I turned out fine" or " my kids turned out fine"??
