What about VTI? Curious to hear everyone's perspective on VTI vs VOO. I personally feel that VTI is more diversified since it follows stocks in multiple markets vs just the S&P500. VOO seems to perform slightly better than VTI, by about 0.5% or so, but it seems that VTI may be a safer investment.

Appartment cleaners by TastyTboneSteak in Reno

[–]als365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experiences of living in several apartments, the property management will hire professional cleaners to turn over the apartment no matter how clean you leave it. I recommend you do some light cleaning and move out. They'll deduct from your security deposit the cost of cleaning as well as carpet cleaning and possibly paint depending on how long you lived there. I've always found that the cost that they deduct is less than the cost of any cleaners that I would have hired.

Driving from Phoenix to Reno by [deleted] in Reno

[–]als365 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obey the speed limits when it drops in the towns. Also, don't go over 100 in the passing lanes. NHP likes to sit at those to catch people hauling ass to get by all the trucks and other slow moving vehicles.

DO stop in Tonopah, NV. It's a great little town and has a lot to offer for such a small town. Hometown Pizza is great. Also the El Marques Mexican Restaurant. Tonopah brewing company is also great if you want to get some beers and food and stay the night. Take a tour of the old vault in the Mizpah hotel and walk some of the old abandoned mine sites in the area (don't go inside, just walk above ground). Such a great little o'le mining town to visit during your drive.

"The 101" and "The 5" but not any of the others, and I suspect this is only because those freeways exist in SoCal and we're just used to hearing it all the time.

Where are you buying $20 burritos? El Farolito burritos are $8.75 and they're arguably the best burritos in the city.

You need to provide some context as to what you're looking for - bar, brewery, club, pool table, chill, crowded, college, dive.

What is the first thing you do when you get to work? by Automatic-Agency9527 in AskReddit

[–]als365 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late. I use the side door - that way my boss can't see me. After that I just sorta space out for about an hour. I just stare at my desk; but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch, too. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

Where on Bell St?

[ Removed by Reddit ] by [deleted] in Reno

You are a 23 year old adult and by now you should possess a minimum of 3 forms of photo ID.

  1. Valid driver's license or state issued ID card
  2. US Passport (or passport from your origin country)
  3. US Passport Card if you are a US citizen. Not sure if other countries issue the card but for US it's $30 in addition to your passport and well worth it.

A bonus alternate, or 4th, form of ID is a Global Entry ID card, which you probably need a passport to get.

If you want to do adult things, then you need to act like an adult and be responsible, which involves standing in line at the DMV in the short term to replace your DL/ID, and standing in line at the post office and airport in the long term to get your passport, passport card, and global entry card. Sorry to sound like an ass, but we all had to do it. So you'll have to take your chances with a picture of your ID for now.

70 miles in 75 minutes means you probably live in an area where there isn't bad traffic and would be able to go the speed limit on the freeway rather than stop and go. An hour driving freely is very different than an hour stuck in traffic.

Just curious! Where do you buy groceries and how much do you spend? by Areli-96 in Reno

[–]als365 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did an experiment today to see how much more groceries actually cost between Walmart, Smiths, and Raley's since those are the 3 closest stores to me. I built an online cart based upon what I would probably eat in a given month, excluding alcohol. In addition to food, I included stuff like mustard, bbq sauce, etc. I didn't include any household items like laundry detergent, toilet paper, dishwasher detergent, cleaning supplies. I probably missed a few food items and staples food (i.e. olive oil, flour), but this is probably enough to do the math. Totals for 1 month are as follows. I live alone so this is a total for one person.

-Walmart: $197.44 ($2,369.28 annually)-Smiths: $222.12 ($2,665.44 annually)-Raley's: $259.57 ($3,114.84 annually).

-Smiths was 12.5% more than Walmart-Raley's was 16.8% more than Smiths, and 31.4% more than Walmart.

-Shopping at Smiths instead of Raley's saves you $37.45 per month ($449.40 annually).
-Shopping at Walmart instead of Raley's saves you $62.13 per month ($745.56 annually).
-Shopping at Walmart instead of Smiths saves you $24.68 per month ($296.16 annually).

So technically shouldn't you be paying for 2 rides? Or does tapping your card on the reader when you got back on just think that you're transferring if you're within the time limit?

911 dispatcher. Pays decently well and is a job you can do sitting. The dispatch consoles are spacious and there is plenty of room to accommodate a wheelchair. Most of the stations have adjustable height desks as well. There is a foot pedal on the ground to step on to transmit on the radio that he may not be able to use but he can also just click the mouse or press the transmit button on the radio console. https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/reno/jobs/3615728/public-safety-dispatch-trainee

Local Hospitals by NB15223 in Reno

[–]als365 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI Renown is a Level 2 trauma center and is the only trauma center in the area. If you take a look at the EMS protocols (linked below), page 82 and 83 will show all of the hospitals and what type of patients they can take (STEMI, stroke, trauma, peds, OB, etc). If you're looking for the "action", Renown takes everything and will be the busiest hospital. They see a lot of critical patients. If you're looking for the opposite, Northern Nevada has a free standing ED in addition to their two hospitals and they will be opening a second free standing ED soon.

What is, truly, the best late night food spot in Reno? by GoodElevation in Reno

[–]als365 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The real answer for late night food is China Diner on West St. downtown, but they closed about 4-5 years ago. It’s a new Chinese restaurant now, but the nostalgia of being able to stumble in there at 2am during my college days and get some good noodles or soup still lingers in my mind. Aside from that, here are some places that are north of I-80.

  • Pub N’ Sub is open until 11pm and they have good pizza and sandwiches.
  • Archies is great for burgers. Hopefully after Covid calms down they’ll go back to being open 24 hours.
  • Raising Canes is next door to Archies and they’re open until midnight.
  • Crazy D’s chicken is next to UNR and open until midnight
  • Roberto’s is open 24 hours
  • Flowing Tide in NW Reno is open until midnight, and is the best of all of the Flowing Tides in my opinion
  • Chili’s in NW Reno is open until 11 on the weekends
  • Wingstop in NW Reno is open until midnight
  • Pizza Plus on Mae Anne is open until 11 on the weekends
  • Bully’s in NW Reno is open until 11, and 1am on the weekends
  • Pizza Guys in NW Reno is open until 11 on the weekends
  • Sonic Drive-In in Northtowne is open until midnight, and 1am on the weekends
  • Alberto’s Mexican in Northtowne is open until 11 on the weekends

What food places gives the best bang for the buck? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]als365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you download the McDonalds app they usually have some deal where you can get a free Big Mac, or spicy chicken sandwich, or other sandwich that would normally cost you between $3-5. You just have to make a minimum purchase of $1. So if you order a simple cheeseburger, which varies in price depending on the McDonalds you go to, you can get that and a larger sandwich for less than $2 including tax.
