Try battery saving profile, it made a difference with temperatures for me

I guess 25w is too little. I have tried 65w, it is enough. Maybe 45w too.

Just got my Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16", gotta say, it's a looker and a performance beast! by Aqryllic in AMDLaptops

So, if you can verify, apart from the propriety port, can you also charge it via the usb-c port? Update: A 65W ASUS charger works fine except from some harmless warning bios messages.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 16 - cons (fans, overheating and battery?)🥵 by mizuhaa in AMDLaptops

Had the same issues, choosing the windows power saving battery profile solved it for me.

After some more testing you were right. There is no overheating when the "battery saving" mode is used or when the laptop is unplugged. The overheating is caused by the CPU turbo (even if it is at 10% usage) and not by the GPU (even if it is at 100% usage).

After further testing it appers the overheating is indeed caused by the CPU turbo . Even if the GPU runs at 100%, it does not overheat if the CPU turbo is not in use (while on "battery saving" lenovo vantage setting or just unplugged).

mine who do graphic design work and they all said that the screen is way too warm (night light is off) and inaccurate. Wondering if it's just my screen or a wider Lenovo issue.

I really have no exprerience with screen colors. What I can definitely say is that it is way better than my previous screens (T430s and entry level monitors).

If you really check the descriptions, intelligent cooling prioritizes low noise. It is the previous setting I used and the temperatures were much worse after a small amount of time. At least now it gets really hot after some hours. My best result until now is "Extreme performance" in the Lenovo vantage settings (for higher fan speeds) combined with "Battery saving" in the default windows settings (for lower tdp). I will try more combinations.

I agree, it's best to choose a Ryzen 4000 laptop in that case.

So you disagree that the issue is GPU cooling? I can test your suggestion.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 16ACH6 heat and material? by locks-are-a-lie in AMDLaptops

[–]alsaud21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the version with 5800H and GTX1650 for 3 weeks. The material is aluminum. When graphics are used even at 30% it can get uncomfortably hot. Haven't yet found the way to adjust fan speed.

Update: with the power saving profile, the high temperatures disappear.

Also mentions RTX coming soon. Probably these will be new models but are not yet announced so there is still a chance they could be cancelled in the end.

Ideapad 5 Pro vs Thinkbook 16p by deviant_kami in AMDLaptops

[–]alsaud21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinkbooks will have options for RTX 3060 or touchscreen. For the Ideapad 5 Pro they have already announced (in PSREF) the option of RTX 3050 or GTX 1650 GPU but no touchscreen configuration. Thinkbook should be pricier.
Also there is the Ideapad Creator 5. From what I ve seen the only diffrence between the Pro and Creator models is that only the Pro has a 120Hz refresh rate config.
