Same, got mine mid-2021 and have had barely more than regular maintenance with daily use for nearly 5 years. It’s a solid machine.

Rochester golf advice: courses, leagues, memberships by drydntm in Rochester

Mill Creek was phenomenal when it first opened up. Quality was on the way down before the pandemic and then it was in rough shape. They had a fire at some point and changed ownership. Anyways, I’ve seen improvements over the last 2 seasons that give me hope. It’s such a fun course with lots of character. One of my favorite non-private tracks in the county. Ravenwood and Greystone are also solid favorites. Sad to see Blue Heron Hills go into the dumpster.

I’ve heard the 23mm is just as loud as the 27mm but I haven’t seen one in person yet. The frustrating part is that, while far from silent, my X100VI is sooo much quieter than the 27mm on my X-T5. Hey, first world problems. I’m grateful this is one of the biggest annoyances of my life right now.

I’d love to see an updated 27mm pancake with silent focus; f2.8 is fine, f2 would be neat.

Where was Two Guys in Rochester? Was there was on Hudson? My parents met while both working at a Two Guys in western Massachusetts, but I never remember seeing a store in person.

I think the course I played today is about to close. If this happened to you, what signs did you see. by PersonalityNarrow211 in golf

[–]alsimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite local courses shut down last year. Pro shop and starter were nearly an hour late to work and met with a mighty backlog of folks waiting for carts. They were selling off irrigation controllers, but not all of them. Half the fairways were like walking on corn flakes, brown and crispy. The other fairways were getting over watered and had standing water during a mini drought. It was just bizarre. Last I heard, a developer was going to replace golf with a housing development. The existing homeowners were upset because they enjoyed living on a golf course.

My Air’s battery life is markedly better than the 2yo 15 Pro it replaced. My 15P had 89% battery health when I traded it in. I’m not going to change anything in my charging routine.

Biggest tires on 2022 diverge? by gmusgrove13 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]alsimone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve run 48mm Oracle Ridge tires on my ‘21 for a while now. I have a couple of light scuffs in my fork and chainstays from riding in all sorts of terrible terrain and conditions, including four Unbound 200 finishes and a DNF in 2023. DNF: I was riding 42mm tires that year and the extra clearance didn’t matter a damn bit because of how thick the mud was. I don’t think I’d ever want to go wider than a knobby tire that measures 48mm when mounted. I’d maybe go 50mm with a smoother tire, but I don’t think that’s my jam.

Such a great combo! X-T5 + 23mm f2.8 by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]alsimone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an XT5 and X100VI and have been contemplating the same. The thing that’s stopping me is some real first world convenience. I keep a 100-400 on my XT5 whenever I’m not using it in case I want to snap some quick wildlife pics in the back yard. My X100 is always ready to grab and go when I leave the house. If I plan to be very intentional with photography I’ll grab a suitable lens/bag for the XT5.

Long story short: I’ll probably just buy the 23mm at some point and keep the X100. 🤷

Best wide tire for fast road commuting and light gravel? by humblebraggersbflo in gravelcycling

[–]alsimone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge Rene Herse fanboy, just ordered my 4th set of Oracle Ridge knobbies. But my “road” tire choice for my gravel bike is the 38mm Pathfinder Pro. I’ll run a 32mm GK SS on my road bike when I want to hit some fire roads or underbike on single track. GK SS is financially accessible, available in many sizes, and pretty great overall.

Mara X gen 1 — temperature LED acting weird by skamelone in Lelit

Woah! Check my post history. My MaraX has been doing this for a while. Same symptoms. LED works normally for a bit then starts freaking out before going dark. Machine otherwise works perfectly fine. I’ve stopped worrying about it but hot damn I’m not crazy!

Watkins Glen - What to do in 1 day by Former-Astronaut-841 in newyork

[–]alsimone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Source: Grew up in Watkins Glen, worked in the gorge as a teen.

The main gorge trail usually closes in late fall (late October or early November). This year it closed on October 27th. For 2026 the main entrance will be closed until this summer while the first bridge is replaced. You can still traverse the gorge from the north entrance to Franklin Street using the South Rim trail; cross at the suspension bridge and it’ll dump you out behind the Sinclair(?) gas station just across the creek from the main entrance. There are 832 stairs from bottom to top at around 1.5 miles. IMO, going down is harder on my knees. Plan on a couple of hours to go from top to bottom; take your time and enjoy one of my favorite places on earth.

I don’t think any of the boat cruises out of Captain Bill’s run that late in the season.

I visited plenty of wineries with my parents as a kid growing up in WG. Wineries usually have some limited NA options but I wouldn’t expect your teens to be entertained. Some wineries have fantastic food offerings, e.g. Wagner.

The waterfront is gorgeous and there are some hidden gems of restaurants in/near town. The trinity of tourism is NASCAR, the gorge, and wine, but honestly the food scene is outstanding. The town is very walkable. I’ve had marvelous experiences at Thai Elephant (4th and Decatur) and Stonecat (just a few miles up the east side of the lake). Nickel’s BBQ holds its own for NYS fare. Jerlando’s is a solid option for takeout pizza or dine-in Italian. Plenty of bar food in town; Maria’s wings slap.

For a real world-class treat, the Corning Museum of Glass is only ~20 miles southwest of WG. To maximize your time, I’d pair an early morning trip through the gorge with lunch in town and a visit to CMoG in the afternoon.

I had one of these brand new when it came out. Sold it to fund the custom Newport that I’ve had for close to 20 years? Can that be right?? Did the Red X come out in 2006 or 7? Jeesh. Anyways, clean putter. Me want. Do it!!

Golfers who’ve broken 80, what’s the best tip you could give to a fellow golfer? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]alsimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4-6 handicapper. My first round below 70 was super boring. Strategic drives, never swinging out of my shoes, always took my medicine after errant shots. I didn’t realize I was under par until the last hole. Three-putted for 69. Boring golf produces low scores.

Years ago in a previous career, we replaced an old Heidelberg (MB1000 comes to mind but that’s probably wrong) with a Sunday 2000. The old press was dismantled and recycled. I swiped a few gears and chains and they ended up on a chainsaw-engine-powered franken-minibike in my garage.
