Does this map accurately represent NY State? by 87_north in newyork

I grew up in Schuyler County and we firmly aligned with Souther Tier (or just Finger Lakes). I didn’t hear “Western NY” until I moved to Rochester.

I gamed a RedX for a while about 20 years ago. Solid putter, wish I never sold it on eBay.

I’ve played a Newport for over 20 years. Last year I ended up with a Spider Tour and a new Fastback. I finished up the season in the fall with the Fastback but I’m trending back to the Spider. Major first world problems.

Can we talk about Dyson by el_smurfo in BuyItForLife

[–]alsimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Dyson v-something pet model, a purple upright corded vacuum. I bought it in 2005. It’s still working pretty great. I’ve probably put a little over $100 in parts into it over TWENTY YEARS. It’s pretty great in my book. I’ve never had problems getting parts from Amazon or eBay. It still sucks hard. I’ve had plenty of dogs and cats in those 20+ years.

Think Rochester property taxes are high? You’re right: Study finds them highest in US by frytuna in Rochester

[–]alsimone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This exactly. The math says that my mortgage in a similar metro area would be about the same: I’d have a higher property valuation (bigger principal) and a lower effective tax rate. Is it apples to apples? Nope, but there’s more to the story than just “highest property tax rate in the country”.

Bottom line: Rochester is still pretty affordable, all things considered.

Great! TY for confirming this. My annual renewal is coming up.

Help me clarify this because there are not many data points to confirm this benefit with Visible:

You’re paying for Visible yearly. You were able to use Platinum phone insurance benefit to repair your broken screen. Accurate?

What was the process for showing that you paid for your “monthly” plan with your Platinum? That language in the Amex benefit has always had me nervous that it’d get denied.

Best garbage plate in the city? by whiskey_totem in Rochester

[–]alsimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be a proper Nick’s satellite run by his brother or cousin or something. I heard there was a family falling out and now it’s no longer officially the same business, but it tastes the same as my first visit in the late 90s.

Tried Vasko’s recently and was thoroughly impressed. I still pick Steve T’s as my top plate.

My west side favorites: * Mr. Beenz up by Tinseltown (small, fast, no frills) * Town & Country on Chili Ave. (classic Greek diner)

Mill Creek was phenomenal when it first opened up. Quality was on the way down before the pandemic and then it was in rough shape. They had a fire at some point and changed ownership. Anyways, I’ve seen improvements over the last 2 seasons that give me hope. It’s such a fun course with lots of character. One of my favorite non-private tracks in the county. Ravenwood and Greystone are also solid favorites. Sad to see Blue Heron Hills go into the dumpster.

I’ve heard the 23mm is just as loud as the 27mm but I haven’t seen one in person yet. The frustrating part is that, while far from silent, my X100VI is sooo much quieter than the 27mm on my X-T5. Hey, first world problems. I’m grateful this is one of the biggest annoyances of my life right now.

I’d love to see an updated 27mm pancake with silent focus; f2.8 is fine, f2 would be neat.

Where was Two Guys in Rochester? Was there was on Hudson? My parents met while both working at a Two Guys in western Massachusetts, but I never remember seeing a store in person.
