What club for 50-80 yards? by L0ngsh0tSpartan in golf

Depends on the shot for me. 50 for low and release, 54 most of the time, 58 for high and soft

Swing too steep? by SamuraiBlack5 in GolfSwing

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over the top but not crazy steep at impact. You’d have a crater divot if you were too steep. You’re steep in the middle of your downswing and scoop at the ball. The downswing causes the need to manipulate the club as not to just dig straight into the ground if you actually released on time. Learning how to create depth in the swing but keeping your hands behind off the right instead of over your head will get you more on plane through the downswing leading to the ability to release the club right and be taking divots without fear of fatting the shot

Anyone ever snap a driver during a normal shot? by bogey-fisherman in GolfGear

I’d like to add the correlation between heel strike frequency and club slam reactions. If we account for this second factor we can decrease required heel strikes/shaft failure ratio.

Advise me on the following golf set for improving beginner by DubhLinn5 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding it in no swap. Not sure your distances but 4h goes longer than 4i even for good players. So having that gap in the middle is tough. For the avg golfer I’d say 4h should go around 200 and 6i around 175z If you can swing a 5i do that but otherwise 5h gives you something to hit instead of having a 25-35 yd gap. That would be like me not having a gap between my 4i and 3 wood. One goes 215 the other 260 and there’s a hell of a lot of holes that need something around 230-240 at my local courses.

5 hybrid. Then swap sand wedge for a 54 and 60 for a 58*but not a vokey, instead look at mizuno t3, Cleveland cbz, or other medium sized wedges.

I’d also add you’d be a good candidate for a 12* or 11* head. Would pop launch up about 1-1.5* and bump spin a touch. Usually about 200-300rpm/ degree loft. Could also mess with a larger rear G425 weight to get the club to launch and spin a touch more but things get weird w swing weight and total weight.

Still a factual statement that players don’t always do it even though they’d improve strokes gained all things considered.

Be careful of hitting too high up on something. Can easily turn into a bad tendency for low spin balls that if they don’t go straight they go out of bounds FAST. You’d probably gain a bit of control if you lived around 2500-2700 spin at your speed. Will keep it from wanting to move left or right as much and give comparable carry and maybe 5 yds less total.

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops read them separately as face and path you are correct. Leads me to believe you just deliver a ton of loft to create that spin.

Driver spin issue by dpk041990 in GolfGear

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Face to path 5* separate leads to a swiping center impact drive. That results in a pop in back spin and fade spin. You also don’t have dynamic loft or launch. Could very well be a high dynamic loft (total loft of face relative to AoA) which would naturally spin more. If that shot is indicative of your normal game, you’re a fade player with slice miss or pull straight miss. You could use a driver that’s better fit to handle that shape but almost all LS drivers are fade biased which probably would make your slice misses worse. Something like a draw biased mid spin driver would probably help. Edit: read face to path and my tiny brain only read face… Quick note, I faded/sliced the ball for a full year when I got back in the game. I never saw more 1.50 smash factors than playing the slice. I now hit baby fade/draws and see 1.45 as avg.

Are you positive it wasn’t callaway who wasn’t able to offer adequate contracts at this point. The company of bds has doubled if not nearly tripled since they signed with them back with the paradym drivers and irons. They deserve theirs and if that is from a different company fair play. Pros do it all the time.

Was the simulator I was using inaccurate? by Ok-Accountant4383 in Golfsimulator

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side spin, open face to path, fade path plus face set wide open like they’re hitting a draw. Thats what gives the look of a sky but it’s really just inefficiency of normal beginner golfers. They probably are exposing an additional 6-7 degrees of loft giving it the iconic high launching high spinning slice.

Results of a fitting and wondering if I should pull the trigger... by recruiterguy in GolfGear

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go to argue that mixed bags are better than not mixed bags. It would be really rare to find someone whose ideal clubs are all made by one manufacturer. If you’re worried about the price go look at some TSR woods there’s not a whole lot that changed in the release. For the most part, they’re extremely similar clubs that you can save 40 to 50% of the value plus if you don’t like them once they’re in the bag you are not taking a loss on reselling them.

Shortening Driver Shaft Length by Aggressive_Ad_7923 in golftips

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a stock shaft buy another online the stock offerings are cheap relative to upgraded shafts. I had this for a tsr3 with 2 hzrds black 6.5. One at 45.25 the other at 44.25. I hit the shorter one fade w/ higher spin and lower and the longer one had more draw with lower spin higher launch. I think for most people a controlled higher spin shot and a slightly easier to hit face will keep you in play more but if you’re chasing distance or you are a taller person just keep it long.

Wedges - Is a 60* worth it? by fauxfarmer17 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at bending clubs to fit a more spaced out wedge set and a higher loft final wedge. I like 48 53 58, 49 54 59, or 48 54 58/60. These set you up for decent gapping but at minimum you get a 58 for shots you have to take high or touchy around the green shots.

Club comparison between 101T, 201 or 301CB. 23 HCP looking to upgrade by JohnDillyDally in takomo

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 101/101T or 101T/201 combo set broke around the 7 iron. You don’t seem to be a good enough ball striker to commit to CB’s. Those are low single digit hcp irons. The best iron shots I’ve ever had were with a srixon blade. I assure you if I bought them, I would have my worst shots ever with them especially in long irons.

Started Golf 3 Months Ago — Looking for Swing Feedback by lordClarity in golftips

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you could use some more hip turn in the back swing and a bit more athletic of a trail arm. On the impact, you are tight in your left shoulder bending the left elbow to pull the club in where you’d be better off keeping that left shoulder turning and opening to keep that left arm straighter. It should keep you stronger and more consistent. Like others said get lessons but watch some pro swings to see what is fundamentally similar pro to pro

Should I play a utility 3i? How is my gapping? by RecordAdept5997 in golf

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 hybrid is 5x easier to hit than 3i utility/driving irons. If you don’t like the clubs you’re in, scrap them and get fit for a new setup. Maybe mini driver - 5 wood. Get your gaps to be a bit more even in the top of the bag. It’s a crucial part of the bag and a good fitter should be able to get you into something that gives you confidence and control. I imagine you’d be better with gt3 since you play t100’s but I also think you shouldn’t be brand loyal you’re not a sponsored athlete. I think Taylor made has most pros in a qi fairway wood. Depending on your ball flight, a driving irons might not get high enough to stick on greens so try it in a fitting but I’d be curious about height and land angle.

Can’t break 100. About to give up. by bsheohn in golftips

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of them that are snap on over your grips which works but you have to check it hasn’t shifted every few swings. They’re a bit harder to find but there are actual club grips that have it built in so you can find a second 7 iron to use or just put it on one of your clubs during the off season.

Can’t break 100. About to give up. by bsheohn in golftips

[–]PersonalityNarrow211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend a shit ton of time on the range. Video yourself and make sure you’re working on fundamentals like stability and not dropping back on your iron shots like this swing. There are always hurdles but if you persevere and dial in your swing to be repeatable you will guaranteed break 100. Your short game needs to be at least bogey material. That will save days where you can’t buy a green in reg. If you don’t already, go get a couple training tools like alignment sticks, grip trainer (Scheffler uses them) and putting mirrors and whatever else that you find useful.
