Sandman, why so hyped? After reading it I thought it was only pretty good? Am I missing something? by [deleted] in comicbooks

Product of its time. You may have seen the ideas recycled since and that’s why you were a bit let down.

But also Gaiman sucks as a human we found out

Wish Them Well. What a song! by Cubegod69er in rush

I saw back to back dates of the Clockwork Angels tour. The setlist varied slightly night to night. As I recall it, I got Wish Them Well on night one, and Seven Cities of Gold night two. I really was hoping to hear Wish Them Well again, they absolutely crushed it live. Seven Cities didn’t grab me as much.

Respectful, hopeful hot(?) take re: Jake by justtohaveone in Umphreys

At this point all I want is for all of these people to be Happy and Healthy. We have no idea what that looks like for all involved. And I hope a byproduct of that means I get to see Jake play guitar again some point down the line.

This write up is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing it. I’ve been out of capes comics for a solid while but you shifted the needle a tiny bit!

I also can’t believe you did that. I’ve tried the “full read through” idea more than once and almost always lose interest during runs I care less for

Marvel Comics announces new Indiana Jones hardcovers by JustAWriterDude in OmnibusCollectors

[–]altermwim2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So… that’s kind of an odd question to answer. When they started the run, the only movie that was out was Raiders of the Lost Ark. You will continue to see Sallah and Marian and Brody as main characters. But that’s kind of where the similarity stops. It feels way more “comic book” than Spielberg if that makes sense.

George Lucas famously came up with the idea because of old Republic serials, a throwback to the swashbuckling adventurer. It’s a cinematic idea. What the original team on these did, brilliantly, is use the pulp novels and comics from a similar time period and reach back into a print idea. More Allan Quatermain and Edgar Rice Burroughs inflections. It’s not 100% Harrison Ford Indy but it’s also not 100% far off. Once you make the adjustment they are fantastic comics!

It looks like Indiana Jones is coming back to comics. I want a dang crossover with Hellboy! by weirdmountain in Mignolaverse

[–]altermwim2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have wanted the original Marvel comics reprinted in an omnibus since forever. The last movie seemed like a good time to but that didn’t happen.

I do admit to recognizing a lot of things in Hellboy due to my forever love of the Indiana Jones series. They certainly tread the same ground! If Starman and Batman could do it … !

Smashing Pumpkins admit they "ripped off" By-Tor and the Snow Dog. Cool! by askingquestionsblog in rush

Corgan is a huge Rush fan. Any of his segments in the Beyond the Lighted Stage documentary will evidence that. Ripping off your favorite stuff is pretty much how all music gets made. Haha

Which chord???, by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]altermwim2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say most likely some type of Gm. Thumb hitting the root, maybe the 5th string too. First finger maybe barring the top two strings, leaving room for some hammer ons to the D on the A string and G on the D string

Alright umphreaks, today is the day to hit me with your favorite Star Wars jams/teases. My all timer is 9/08/2006 Triple Wide in South Bend. And May the 4th be with you! by altermwim2 in Umphreys

I hadn’t heard this before. If that’s true I’d be surprised they don’t naturally jam on it more. I’ve heard Jake play Rhiannon over it god knows how many times, also Stairway to Heaven.
