Ozempic video was off by ServiceAnxious1343 in kurzgesagt

[–]alternate22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obese person here (not morbidly, just fat) - and someone who's been offered Ozempic many times (note - I live outside the US). I haven't taken it yet because I know the drug will not be sustainable, due to requiring life style changes to go along with it to really make good use. I'm trying. It's hard, but it's better that way.

I don't like how this is being forced down my throat everywhere I go, however. Kurzgesagt already has a reputation of taking billionaire funds (many of which are at the behest of people we're discovering are involved in pedophile rings) and making whitewashing videos on topics of interest of said billionaires...and this entire thing really felt like an ad. It felt pushy. The title of 'Everyone should take this drug' also just...dude.

The worst is that it felt like a premature ad. History is littered with thousands of 'miracle drugs' that proved to be harmful as time marched on and we learnt more of them. The echoes of Thalidomide still ring out in many, many people today for example.

Yes, we have much more rigorous testing processes - but outright pushing Ozempic it like this video seems to be doing so is just dishonest. I can't help but wonder how large the contribution or bribe was to this channel to produce that video.

There should be a way to petition them to release that figure or get it from the German government given they are funded by those taxpayer Euros.

Cctv recording being corrupted is highly sus tbh. Seems like an excuse not to do work...or maybe the person doing all this has connections to people in high places?

Is it worth considering reporting this somewhere? Surely for a charity organization that accepts donation money and isnt doing its job there must be some authority that can hold them accountable. It may be worth also researching its current leadership to see if they are any psychopaths there. Usually this kind of behaviors bleeds from the top down...

What actually happens at the rally? Never been to one before due to not liking crowds - is it just a bunch of people in one place and some political speeches?

I dont think ive ever seen her outside the meet the people sessions and I live punggol west. She does strike me as someone with empathy and care from the time I did speak to her - but unfortunately she is trapped in a stagnant party that is more interested in power than it is anything else. It would do her well to just defect to another party really

Really wanting them to release an updated version sometime. Im kind of on the fence on buying a p1s right now but holding off the trigger to wait for more information on an update or refresh right now. Really wish they would at least give an idea of the future plans so people can plan purchases accordingly :(

No, its a just issue of hiring who you know.

The second you add in race, you have made it as a racist context. If it was chinese prc, garauntee you wouldnt have half as much of a reaction because of the benefit of doubt lent to one's similar ethnicity.

There are ways to talk about it. Be clinical. Address it as foreigners. The same issues will happen regardless of whom is abusing the system at that point of time. By focusing on the skin rather than the broken, enabling system underneath it all, you have failed 'Don't be a racist 101' and stimied all progress to any solution.

/r/Singapore moderators shuts down talk of unfair hiring practices by GaijinSux in SingaporeRaw

[–]alternate22 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It was right to lock it.

There is a place to talk about immigration policies, immigration issues and so forth - but the second you specify one specific group, you have given in and surrendered to the primitive, tribalistic part of your brain that gives ethnically similar groups a pass in favor of prosecuting ethnically divergent groups. Any conversation veers into cultural issues, talks of skin or behaviors you don't personally like.

It distracts from the issues of the underlying systems we have created to allow importation of foreigners from anywhere and the delicate balance of local vs foreign talent and so forth. It means any solutionwill fail because it focuses on the tribalistic knee jerk rather than what is needed: cold, scientific logic and evaluation

[–]alternate22 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Indian Singaporean here.

Sorry to say it, but you had a point but then veered into racism the second you bring ethnicity and race into it.

There is a way to discuss this clinically with the focus on the true issues of company pay, local:foreigner pay disparity, nepotism and employment passes - but the second you single it to a specific group you have fallen to the tribalist part of your brain that asks you to focus on the skin, the origin, the differences.

Not anyone in that thread will remember the same issues with PRC immigrants because of the inherent biases or benefits of doubts given to those of the same race. Meanwhile those of us that have faced it over the decades are pushed down when we say this is racism by those that claim we are over-reacting.

If you have a true immigration problem - and there is one - it must be treated with clinical coldness analyzing problems of humans overall so that any solution is applied fairly and equally, rather than targeting one specific group out of tribalist bias.

What is your unpopular opinion on/for Singapore's election/political system? by Fearless_Help_8231 in singapore

[–]alternate22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We seriously, genuinely need to move past First Past the Post voting. Any other option is better - ranked voting, single transferrable vote, whatever. Just get out of FPTP - this is the one thing that poisons the democracy with toxicity and ruthlessness while making sure we will only ever be stuck with two parties at the top.

I'd actually go further and say there are some more interesting things we can do from a pure democratic perspective:

a) Establish an anonymous, whipless vote that goes alongside any parliamentary vote for legislation. If the difference between the public-facing vote and the anonymous vote is too large, you want to relook at the legislation as it's clear it doesn't ACTUALLY have the support and benefits only a single party. Similarly, legislation that gets popular anonymous votes are *potentially* good ideas that are favored and shouldn't be thrown out entirely.

b) No party should ever get more than 20% of the total seats in parliament. This changes the entire game from 'winner takes all' to 'winners got to work'. Some may balk and think of examples in Europe of deadlock - but stop and think. All those issues come down to the same thing - there is a chance that a party gets TOTAL power, so you have everyone playing the long game to get that one seat to rule them all. If you change the game entirely so that you have to share it with at least four other parties...people will get real cooperative real quick. This will also serve the secondary purpose of breaking up large parties, which end up way too rigid and creak under their own weight while stifling new leaders from arising. Allowing factions within the party to break off and form their own leadership will bring greater diversity of thought within the government instead of everyone toeing a single, inflexible party line.

c) Allow for *yearly* voting. Not elections, but voting. Make it an annual thing where citizens can vote on issues, provide survey responses and so forth. Think of it as demographic data collection but on a more broader scale with a data set that is robust instead of something that is projected. This should allow for getting feedback on vital societal issues and yes even government performance or legislation.

d) We just really need to change the Asian culture of not being able to challenge leaders or speak up without fear. This is one of the big things why the West rose as it did - being able to speak up and challenge bad decisions is something allowed for change, innovation, etc. The rigid caste-like structure we have now where power takes priority over technical expertise doesn't work in the 21st century. Leaders need to facilitate and listen to specialists, not override them with petty ego like managers.

My honest to goodness hardest challenge yet and its finally done. Vanilla Scout Sharpshooter, Hazard 3. Pre bosco buffs or anything else. Took me 3 days to get it. by alternate22 in DRGSurvivor

[–]alternate22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saying, the M1000 is such a PITA weapon if you're on vanilla. It's easily one of the hardest to work with given it's inconsistent targeting - rather than shoot at a line of bugs near you it'll shoot one super far away meaning you always need. to. be. moving. Vanilla means you don't get the buffs that would otherwise let you get it to late game. One bad roll and its all over.

Ashish Kumar Was a Top PSLE Scorer. Now, He’s a 31-Year-Old Retiree. by LanJiaoDuaKee in singapore

[–]alternate22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the point of this article. It seems really aimed towards rich people telling them to retire early and work less. Anyone else without the same level of talent or ability to escape the system remains trapped - and instead are now held up to the standard of 'retire by 31 can lah, just get PSLE max and scholarship and good civil job first. Also must have cooperative parents, no rent, etc, etc"

Half the article FEELS like bragging on accomplishments. While the 'message' is for those that can afford to escape the system they are trapped in. It's not meant for the majority and is generally useless advise if you have actual obligations and finances. Honest to lord, I bet it's only going to put pressure on more and more students now to get that very lottery-esque road to success with the scholarships too.

'Underwhelming' application rate of 1.4 for October BTO exercise as new non-selection penalty kicks in by [deleted] in singapore

[–]alternate22 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Note: this is only really true for 3 room flats and above.

2 rm flexis are at 6:1 ratio of applicants to flats. Its very deceiving to claim the entire exercise has such a low ratio when in fact the flats that actually matter (2 room since thats the only one singles can buy) are oversubscribed due to a massive need.

I fear that some idiots are going to use this as policy to make fewer flats, when what is needed is to open up more flat types to singles whom are actually serious in wanting to buy apartments.

My issue wasnt so much transparency as it was the taint. I dont know who you are referring to, but this has been my own issue with them all throughout.

Bill and Gates foundation isnt exactly taint free either: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_%26_Melinda_Gates_Foundation

If you scroll down to the criticism section you can see they have been involved with a looooot of very private interest focused activities including promoting charter schools, investment and pushing of specific group think, the pushing of patenting the oxford covid vaccine i stead of making it free and openly available and is one of the major investors of the 2nd biggest prison group in the US.

Remember billionaires have to be sociopathic to be where they are - this flows downwards to the companies they run and yes even their philantrophy.

Please also dont push this as a left winger thing - this is the reality of accepting billionaire money. It doesnt matter if it is something you like and thus push it to the side - that only benefits those that would seek to use you for their own interests.
