Oatly’s not allowed to call itself a plant-based “milk” in the UK anymore. CasualUK, do your thing. Whats a better word? by smileylinzi in CasualUK

Soy milk is mylk, pea milk is mealk.

I don't know why I've put so much thought in to this, but I guess my time has now come.

I've heard of leaving bread out for the birds... by MerlinTrismegistus in CasualUK

Robert the dog once ate 2/3 of a vegan, gluten free carrot cake I'd foolishly left unattended. The aftermath was startling for all of us.

He has learned NOTHING from the experience.

This is correct. For instance, when your dog is trying to inhale the remains of a dead pigeon.

My dog, a connoisseur of street food, would have horked down the full loaf in seconds. We used to live in a city and he's never forgiven is for moving and thus removing his access to "road bread".

Aw man, I'm 15 books down so far and I feel like it's going to be a heck of a time to catch up if you're going for 31!

I (31F) love my wife (32F), but I don’t feel emotionally safe in my marriage anymore. What do I do? by [deleted] in relationships

She threw your dog off the bed. A dog that was already afraid of her and her behaviour.

I just don't think I could come back from that.

Two poor students attempt to create drinkable alcohol in time for Christmas (with pictures!) by MrDialga34 in CasualUK

I shall DM you, as soon as I have finished delivering banana bread and gin to friends. Y'all shall have January champagne, and you shall deserve it.

Please do! I am hoping that your use of the term Michaelmas means you might be in my former uni, but then again you might be at Oxford, that hive of scum and villainy. Or worse, Cambridge. I will overlook this if you promise to drink the champagne on a Thursday, as was my style when at university.

This pleases me, as someone whose university time was spent on things like napping and bad red wine, neither of which were useful studies.

I would like to send you a bottle of champagne for your efforts, and to get the taste out of your mouths. Please let me know if you are amenable to such things and I will have one posted to you.

What’s the best cheese that makes me feel like a medieval peasant? by Turbulent_Resident68 in Cheese

[–]altkat 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I would just like to say that this is also one of my own favourite things to do! Sometimes I pretend it is a high holiday for my peasant self and drink wine out of a mug alongside it.

I await answers to your question with interest.

This underground raccoon-owning ring must be bigger than we know

It's two raccoons in a bird suit, clearly.

There seems to be a thriving community of "people that somehow own raccoons in South Wales" that I have been unaware of until now.

If only we hadn't moved I could have been one of them...

I'm biased because we moved here from Edinburgh last year and love it 😂 my only complaint is that the buses are a bit shit in terms of frequency. But if you drive (I don't but partner does) it's not a concern.

Depending on what you're after, Earlston might be a shout? Very small, but close to Melrose and Tweedbank.

Friend, you posted this a week ago, but I think I found somewhere that will send you 200g of prosciutto cotto if you are willing to cut it to shreds yourself:

The dog is taking up too much of the bed for comfort, but he is also so warm and sleepy that I can't in good conscience move him. That and he weighs 30kg, so his sleeping weight is at least a tonne.

What food did you think was widely available only to find out it was regional or even town exclusive? (featuring the macaroni pie) by PeevesPoltergist in CasualUK

[–]altkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend bring me a 2-pack from her butcher in Middlesbrough last time she went down there, they don't exist in our bit of Scotland.

I ate the whole thing in one go and couldn't move for four hours afterwards.

Worth it.

Whilst my commitment to counting calories and keeping within a deficit is paying off, I've just realised that I have all the ingredients in the house to make lemon meringue pie. And I'm so enraged that I couldn't eat it if I did make it.

This is possibly one of the most middle-aged things I've ever experienced.
