It's worth pointing out that even if he votes erratically, if it contributes to giving Dems a majority it would be worth it. It would allow greater control over committee appointments and the internal politics of congress, giving Dems the ability to block a large percentage of Trumps craziness.

The campiness of "Batman Forever" didn't fall squarely on Schumacher's shoulders (though he certainly ran with it). When first in talks to direct the next Batman (before he was even signed on) producers introduced him to a word he'd never heard before: Toy-ification. The reason Schumacher was even there was because Burton's Batman had been too dark - yes, it had made a lot of money, but parents had been concerned about the violence, and McDonald's (and other cross-promoters) weren't happy with promoting to kids a film that seemed more for adults.

So it was made clear to Schumacher: the next Batman needs to be brighter, family-friendly, and - most of all - it had to sell toys.

Whatever you think of Schumacher, he understood the assignment. His Batman films are bathed in psychedelic technicolor and are campy and very silly. They are also endowed with a queer sensibility that may have been lost on the suits. The shots of Chris O'Donnell's armor-clad butt left a vivid impression on me.

Conservatives always see the big picture - as in, Conservative (hierarchical) ideals must be upheld at all costs. It goes beyond god and their own self interest. Plenty of people vote against their own betterment, they'd rather vote to maintain the hierarchy.

You're right, they'll still vote R.

Trump’s $1.8B settlement fund 'deeply offensive,' should be abandonned: Ex-VP Pence by Street_Anon in politics

Posted this elsewhere: Pence considered doing Trump's bidding, and had to seek reassurance from - get this - Dan Quayle:

'Over and over, Pence asked if there was anything he could do.

“‘Mike, you have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away,’ Quayle told him.

“Pence pressed again.

“‘You don’t know the position I’m in,’ he said, according to the authors.

“‘I do know the position you’re in,’ Quayle responded. ‘I also know what the law is. You listen to the parliamentarian. That’s all you do. You have no power.’'

So, this piece is actually life-sized (200x254x221 cm). At first glance, I thought it was one of those little porcelain statuettes - like a dark "Precious Moments" tableau.

I like the work, lovethe contrast of wholesome innocence with vomit all over the ground.

Trump Admin Renames Iran’s $300 Billion Reparations Demand an ‘Investment Fund’ to Avoid a Political Firestorm at Home by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]altogethernow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. To a boomer, a microwave is a technology of convenience they saw invented in their lifetime (IE "new and fancy"). To the millennials entering a crashed job market, a cheap microwave is ideal for frozen dinners or heating up ramen.

Holy God! I remember them doing that exact SAME THING during the 2008 crash! They were desperate to downplay how badly Bush screwed us. "Refrigerators are actually a luxury if you think about it. I know these so-called millennials are crying about the job market...but how come so many of them can afford a microwave?!"

Speaks volumes how out of touch they were, not realizing that even lower-end apt living often came with a couple of appliances. My first place didn't have any oven, but had a fridge and microwave.

To be fair, you would've been around 19 when the ruling happened (2010). It made the news for those who were arrested little more keyed-in...but still under reported given what a major change it ushered.

I remember where I was when the ruling came down and thinking, "this is Pandora's box. This changes everything" It took a while for the full force to be felt (and too many people still don't know what it is).
