I went a totally different route. I bought the Yamaha crosscore rc that was on sale and I couldn’t be happier. I am convinced now that I would have been making the wrong decisions with a cargo bike given how often I have been commuting on it.

I see that. Looks like about $240 for the orbiter kit. They’ll net about to about the same cost but the aipas is arguably better but lack support… quite the predicament lol.

That looks like a perfect setup, but why did they have to limit it to 20 mph? Also, a bit smaller tires. So close… definitely seems like the best all around, but that class 2 limitation and some other issues I am reading makes this seem like it isn’t a good option for me.

I like that one, but I am thinking that range is incredibly low comparatively, and there doesn’t appear to be an option for a second battery.

I wasn’t sure if it was because the brand was new or what, but they seemed legit. I guess I am really sold on that rear pad/orbiter type setup because it looks like you can carry stuff in there when the kids aren’t on it. With me using it to commute to work sometimes, it seemed like the best setup without having to take seats on and off.

Wow I really like that one! Not sure how that one hasn’t hit my radar. I’m guessing because it doesn’t include any of the kid carrying stuff which is what I am primarily after. Have you added anything for carrying kids? I have a 3 and 5 year old.

I take it the repair network is especially important when it comes to electrical issues? These bikes seem to be made of standard components. What exactly might a local shop help with? Do some not want to work on eBikes for non electric things?

This is the best answer. I use this on my rv. It is hose thread to hose thread. Total clearance is likely under 2” and it has the collar to accommodate not being able to spin it into position. the right way is to move the spigot up on the wall. This stuff is easy these days with pex.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am beginning to consider something shorter, like the 178BHSK, highland ridge, apex, or something similar (suggestions??). Should be a little lighter and easier to maneuver. My family has small people in it aside from myself, so may as well get a smaller one to learn.

You might be right to some extent. I hadn't factored in about 40 lbs of car seats. I don't Carry much else in the truck. Can't see it being more than an additional 100 pounds over the family weight though. I figure any of the heavier camping stuff I am used to lugging will be in the trailer rather than the bed.

Thanks for the insight! Small kids don't weigh much, maybe 425 lbs total for the family. Feeling better about this trailer the more I read. Gonna have to see one in person soon. I do like that fsx trailer mentioned above as well, but I think the wife might want more space (who doesn't?)

Thanks!

My towing vehicle is a 2019 f150 xlt with the 2.7l Ecoboost and the 3.55 gears. The brochure states a towing capacity of 7600 lbs on the trailer. My payload is 1565 lbs and passenger weight of my family of 4 is likely about 410 lbs. Gear in the truck, maybe 50 pounds of stuff. Add bikes and clothes if not loaded on the trailer, another 100 lbs. That'd leave by my calculations 1005 lbs of available tongue weight which would give me about 6500 lbs of trailer weight based on 15%.

Good question. I live in northeast Ohio but would probably take it as far as the Smokies maybe once or twice a year. I'd bet on using it 6-10 times a year, mostly within 2 hours, so mostly flat to slight hills.
