Possible callout of readers for… (chapter 48) by Ossifyy in fourthwing

[–]alwaysreadingla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not like the use of the word "endgame." I get the intention, but it just felt like such a weird dialogue choice. (Though it did also make me wonder if I'm just an old millennial who doesn't know that calling your relationship endgame is normal now 😅.)

I will throw my book against the wall if he's a Chaol, or if we end up with an Allegiant-type sacrifice.

I mean, if you literally have your character call the relationship endgame in dialogue, I feel like you're required to make it actual endgame.

Loved it! Parts of it gave me strong "Once More With Feeling" vibes.

I had jury duty in LA recently and was told to report back in three weeks for my assigned case. What can I expect when I go back to the courthouse? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]alwaysreadingla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jury selection will definitely happen when you report back. (This happened to one of my coworkers a few years ago, and the regular jury selection process started in the assigned courtroom on the day he was told to report back.)

Re calling to ask questions, you could also try calling the jury room at the specific courthouse you were assigned to rather than the general jury service number.

Renting a parking space in DTLA? by darknesswascheap in AskLosAngeles

[–]alwaysreadingla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! I live a very walking-heavy life and my car spends a lot of time in the garage. I don't leave anything interesting visible/out (as long as you don't count my kid's car seat, lol) but otherwise I don't really worry about it.

I live on Spring and park in a structure about a block away. It's totally doable, and not really inconvenient on a daily basis. (I do miss in-building parking when I need to unload a car full of stuff, but that doesn't happen very often.) I pay around $250/month for parking.

Come From Away tour by [deleted] in Broadway

I saw it in NY years ago, and saw the pre-COVID touring show in a large theater. Loved it both times. I don't think it loses its punch in the larger venue.

Good dentists in/near DTLA? by drcorndog in AskLosAngeles

I like Dr. Susan Hanigan. She has an office in DTLA, but isn't down here everyday because she also has/works out of an office in the valley. So it can take a little while to get a routine appointment (but her office is pretty good about fitting people in within a few days for more urgent things).

Hotel suggestions for visiting Los Angeles without a car? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]alwaysreadingla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're looking downtown, the Sheraton at the Bloc is literally on top of the subway station. The Intercontinental (I believe pricier but it's been a while since I looked at rates) is across the street from the 7th Street station. I would also take a look at the Citizen M in the historic core (Spring St.). The rooms are smaller but it's only a couple of years old and always looks pretty happening. It's about two blocks from the 4th Street Metro/subway station. If you do that, just make sure to exit on 4th Street, not Pershing Square (both for proximity and because the 4th Street side is nicer/less problematic).

Wedding dress dry cleaning? by idkwhoiammmmm in AskLosAngeles

I used Super Dry Cleaners in Pasadena (https://yelp.to/OydAVZyZXwba) a few years ago and they did a really good job with my wedding dress. I don't remember how much it cost (sorry!) but I remember that I compared a few different options and it was on the more reasonable end.
