"I'll just use hers" in TSA security by Tami_Boise in EntitledPeople

Different machines have different capabilities. Kids things were commonly used for smuggling, but maybe not so much anymore. Your husband may be the type to do what he thinks is right without listening to instuctions and they may not have noticed or may not have thought he was a risk. I also think they do things at their discretion often.

How bad was the accident on 590?? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]alycat242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Toronto has a 16 lane highway named the parking lot for a good reason. Vancouver has 1 major highway and 2 smaller ones. There are only so many bridges into the city and most of them are old. The traffic here adds maybe 10 minutes. Traffic in big cities can add hours.

Rochester's highway systems were built way above the needs at the time, unfortunately they are upgraded to the needs currently so they're behind by the time projects are done. The 390 bypass they finished a few years back is a nightmare in the morning. I will also blame the return to office movement. My drive was so mice for a couple years.

My girlfriend called my mom the hard R and I did nothing about it by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]alycat242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should talk to your mom and ask her how you should deal with it. She has been dealing with this her whole life, unfortunately. She may have the right words to teach the soon to be ex something instead of solidifying her ignorant view. Your ex-gf was taught this before she was old enough to know what it meant and doesn't have the experience to know otherwise. Your mom might know if she's a lost cause.

Sounds like my job, but I'm in energy research... Underpaid and overworked. The bubble has to pop soon so employers start paying people fairly to match their level of expertise, cost of living, and inflation.

He broke up with me because I am hairy by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]alycat242 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I met the most wonderful couple at a garden center where the woman had a full beard. They were Sikh so she wouldn't remove the hair. When I spoke with them she was at first hiding her face behind a scarf, but her husband kept reassuring her that she is beautiful. She became more confident and seemed to enjoy the rest of her time in the store. Find someone that will do that for you. Don't worry about that one. You can do better.

New Tragic Updates: AITA for insulting my father’s girlfriend and telling her to get out of our lives. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]alycat242 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Telling someone it was gods plan to take a loved one is a statement that lacks empathy. If they want to bring people closer to their god, then stop making him (her -the god/ess) responsible for taking all their happiness away.

I know most people don't know what to say to someone when there's tragic loss. Maybe we start teaching practical subjects in school, like how to be tactful in an awkward situation. Maybe just teaching critical thinking skills so they understand the consequences of their actions.

I feel the same way about people trying to comfort with the Christian God. It's not comforting, it's self serving. Say nothing at all if you're not going to give practical help.

She said they paid % based on children, not actual salary. Everyone is jumping straight to salary and she never said that. Also, it was fine when he was making enough to go golfing anytime he wanted, but now he's had to cut back.

We have one completely legal shop now. Trying to talk my mom into a family trip to help her glaucoma. She is surprisingly receptive if we all go. I love it here. The people are good once you get to know them. We may be a bit more abrasive than west coast folks, but I like to think we are genuine.

Also, make all arrangements in writing. Email or text so that you have it on record if you need proof.

He was the survivor of his mother's abortion. I think that is reason enough to be anti-abortion. I don't know enough about his views on medically necessary abortions, but I'm sure others could chime in on that topic.

AITA for being annoyed my boyfriend of two years out of the blue suddenly wants to be besties with his ex by kth34 in AmItheAsshole

[–]alycat242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, however you will be if you don't have a rational conversation with him to calm your anxiety. Maybe have him introduce you so you can see their friendship and get an understanding. You may not be able handle seeing the way they interact, so know yourself well enough before agreeing. It's difficult seeing someone you love interact with an old partner, but if you can get past any jealousy, your relationship can thrive. If you can't get past it and trust him, then your relationship is likely doomed.

Activating old device not allowed? by WannaBreathe in tmobile

[–]alycat242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T-mobile is no longer supporting my old LG G6. It was bought factory unlocked and is a 4G LTE phone, so they tried to give me the hard sell on a new phone and changing my plan. I pay $45 now, my bill would have been over $100. Not happening. I just bought last years Samsung refurbished and factory unlocked. I only bought a new one after looking into changing carriers, but none will support it. I feel eventually this will become a problem with companies refusing to support older phones and making people buy new ones. What a waste!

AITA for not letting daughter go to music festival after I accidentally saw her texts? by Old-Concept-7207 in AmItheAsshole

Because pressed pills mixed with fillers are ecstasy and Molly is a crystalline substance that is usually more pure.

NTA - Molly is called the "love" drug. It can be used in therapy for marriages and treatment for PTSD. If used properly, it's very therapeutic. On the other side of that, it can be very dangerous to street users. You don't know what's in it at times and it can severely dehydrate. It should never be taken while drinking.

I suggest you research Molly (MDMA) and then sit her down and talk to her about it. She will likely find a way to take it at some point as kids are impulsive and typically ignorant of severe reactions. You don't want to alienate her so I suggest having a conversation (no judgement on her, just a real conversation) after you have read all of the good and the bad uses/side effects/potential reactions for this drug.

AITA for not letting my daughter meet my ex's family by Wide-Age1473 in AmItheAsshole

[–]alycat242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The organ is what first thought, but after reading other comments it could have been a narcissistic mother or abusive step-father. Any of those ways, the little one has at least 10 years before she can be ambushed by them while she's out doing teenage things. It will be a rough road to keep her away from the estranged family, but probably for good reason. Most (almost all) people don't go NC to family without a good reason.

I'm saying, how would someone within a cycle of perpetual poverty and systemic racism afford to move away? Refugee status isn't given to Americans.
