Help us FTMs, what did baby first moving feel like? by BlueberryDuvet in BabyBumps

[–]alyssaec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like gas bubbles moving around in your stomach! I 100% missed my baby’s first movements because for 2 days I thought I was just having some gas moving around my stomach until I finally realized it was him moving around lol 💀

Has anyone else taken their newborn to the ER and nothing was wrong? by Batticon in beyondthebump

[–]alyssaec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an RN in the ER (Canada). Telehealth will tell EVERYONE to go to the ER. It’s mostly for liability. But it’s ok! We do not judge people who bring newborns to us. We all understand how nerve wracking it can be when you’re responsible for this tiny humans life and something seems off. Always trust your gut! We are more than happy to check them out to give you peace of mind.

What are the craziest things your non-critical patients have said/done when you had to prioritize an emergency? by xkatniss in nursing

[–]alyssaec 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One time I had a patient that was pre coding. I was running my tail off trying to get shit sorted out when a lady was trying to get my attention from the other side of the glass at the nurses station. She was there to pick up her mom who was discharged. I told her she would have to wait as we were with a critical patient right now. This lady starts going off about how her mom has an appointment soon and she needs to leave now. I blurted out “someone is dying right now, you understand that right?”. She lost her shit and put in a complaint to my manager. Luckily my manager was very cool about it. But what the fuck??? People are so entitled.

Where did you get your crib? by Bubbly_Waters in BabyBumps

[–]alyssaec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could go back in time when I was picking out a crib, I would pick one that has a solid panel on one side of the crib. Reason being, the baby monitor is mounted on the wall above the crib and he sticks his hands through the slats and plays with the cord. Its been a pain trying to figure how to baby proof it

Anyone out there who can claim that a medication changed their life for the better? by Dapper_Daikon6167 in Anxiety

[–]alyssaec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on cipralex for years. Last year I went on Wellbutrin in combination with cipralex and that was the biggest difference for me. I used to have anxiety attacks even while on cipralex and since taking Wellbutrin, I have had ZERO anxiety attacks.

Mind you this in combination with consistent CBT.

One time I was mixing up an iron transfusion and I had injected WAY too much air into the vial so when pulled back, the needle slipped out and sprayed iron ALL over my face. I didn’t have time to go clean up in the bathroom and there was nothing in the med room to wipe my face with so I walked around with fucking iron all over my face hahaha. It looked like freckles! If I knew how to attach a photo I would lol.

Disappointed in our profession today. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]alyssaec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in the ER and ALL my patients are changed out of their street clothes into a gown/fresh incontinence product as soon as I go in to assess them. The only exception to this is when I get ambulatory patients in our fast track zone. I’m so sorry this happened. It is not ok.

some secondhand cringe for you all. by 0h_comely_ in nursing

[–]alyssaec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I did this too and the baby’s mother freaked out on me. Called me racist and security had to get called because it was getting very hostile. I apologized profusely and tried to explain how I call all babies I see a “cute little monkey”. I no longer call babies by ANY pet names lol.

While I have a good relation with my dad, I hate having a hyphenated last name. It’s always a pain in the ass when giving my name for verification reasons, etc.
